<br />, Minutes of the regular meeting of July 14th, 1930, and of the adjourned
<br />r meeting of Ju~y 28, 1930, were read and approved.
<br /> Bids for the purchase of Oity of Eugene Power and Light Bonds were opened ~

<br /> and read and referred to the Eugene Wa tel' Board for c onsi derat ion.

<br /> ( A remonstrance against the paving of the alley running east and west be-
<br /> tween Olive and Charnelton streets and between 7th and 8th streets was read, and
<br /> Dr.. York and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Hovey spoke for the remonstrance and Joseph
<br /> , Jacobs against it,. Councilman Lamb moved that the remonstrance be overruled and
<br />" the motion was seco nded. Councilmen voting for the motion, Washburne, Simon,
<br /> . Lamb,. Reid, and Large; against the motion Hendershott and Zumwalt.
<br /> i Mr. E. E. Jepsen questioned the amount of his assessment on the improvement
<br /> ,I of 24th Avenue, although stating that he did not wish to appear as making an ob-
<br /> ) I jection or remonstrance. The method of assessing was explained to him.
<br /> Chairman Large of the finance committee recommended that the Treasurer be
<br /> instructed to purchase f~om Tucker Hunter Dulin and Company out of the Eugene Trun
<br /> Sewer Sinking Fund, due Sept. 1, 1942, $5,000.00 Clackamas County Road bonds at
<br /> 4*%, due May 1, 1942; on the basis of 4.20, Approximate price 102.8, and $5,000.00
<br /> Multnomah County Road bonds at 4~, due Sept. 1, 1956, basis 4.15, ap~roximate
<br /> price 105.5, as inve stment of the sinking funds of the Eugene sewer 570 bond~ due
<br /> January 1, 1957. A motion was made, seconded, and carried to adopt the recommenda-
<br /> I tion.

<br /> I Mr. Large of the finance committee also moveu that the city make a formal
<br /> offer to Fred E. Smith, attorney for Mrs. Traschel, Qf $400.00 as full settlement
<br /> of her claim for damages against the ci ty .
<br /> A petition of the Electric Cleaners and others for a street light at the
<br /> intersection of the alleys between Willamette and Olive Street and 13th and 11th
<br /> Streets, and a petition for a fire hydrant in the vicinity of 4th and Polk Streets
<br /> were read, and Chairman Hende~shott of the fire and water committee moved the
<br /> granting of these petitions, and the motion was carried.
<br /> Councilman Hendershott also moved that the Fire Chief be granted permission
<br /> tio a ttend the convention at Corvallis and, the annual Fire Chief Conven tion of the
<br /> Pacific Coast at Oakland, California, on Sept. 1st to 4th. The motion was second-
<br /> ed and carried.
<br /> Councilman Hendershott, as Chairman of the playground committee, stated
<br /> I too t plans were being considered for the construction of a concrete swimming pool
<br /> at Riverview Park, and that he would like an expression of the Council favoring
<br /> the installation of the swimming pool with the understanding that it was not to
<br /> be financed by the city, and a motion was made, see on de d , and carried that the
<br /> . city approve this project if it, can be carried out as suggested.
<br /> Mo tion was made, seconded, and carried that the ci ty finance the cost of
<br /> guards at the swimming pool for 10 days at $5.40 per day following the expiration
<br /> of the summer playground program.
<br /> Mr. Hendershott also presented the reques~ of the Eugene Gun 'Club for a
<br /> lease of a shooting ground at the aviation field, and the matter was on motion
<br /> . referred to the Judiciary Committee.
<br /> I The Chief of Police was instructed to have the rubbish cleaned from the l
<br /> streets and sidewalks adjacent to the building on the Southeast corner of 13th
<br /> and Willamette Streets.
<br /> I An offer of G. W. Thompson to pay the city $400.00 for Lot 10, Block 6,
<br /> I Shelton's First Addition was read and on motion rejected.

<br /> An application of Mrs. J. W. Maltman for a rooming house at 560 Post Office
<br /> Drive, approved by the Chief of Police, was on motion granted.
<br /> 1~yor Wilder appointed Clair W. Larsen to the city police force to succeed
<br /> Officer Schulze , resigned, the appointment to take effect August 1st at a salary
<br /> of $125.00 per month. A motion was rnade'to conf"irm the appointment and instruct
<br /> the Recorder to draw warrants in payment of his salary at the time , regular salarie
<br /> are pa i d each mon th . The motion was seconded, and the ayes and nays were dalled,
<br /> all councilmefl voting aye, nay, non e , absent Monroe. The motion was declared
<br /> passed. ,
