<br />Attorney Dan Johnston presented. an ordinance to the Council providing for
<br />the regulating and licensing of the bus~ness of painting, paper hanging, decorating
<br />commercial sign and show card writing and urged its consideration by the Council.
<br />The Ordinance was referred, to the JUdiciary Committee and City Attorney.
<br />
<br />: The request of Mr. Flowler for:permission to install his patented stop
<br />street warning flange at one of the street intersections was referred to the Police
<br />Committee with power to act.

<br />.Ir- Building Inspector Rundlett.

<br />An interim agreement of the members of the City Council to rescind its
<br />formal action of June 8th, providing fol;' submitting of the City Hall repairs to
<br />contractor's bids and directing the same to be done by day labor in charge of the
<br />Building Inspector and under Hunzicke-r & Smith, Architects, was presented to the
<br />Council for ratifi~ation, and on motion duly seconded and carried was at this time
<br />duly, xatitied and approved. '

<br />Report of the Library Board for the month of Rmy was placed on file.
<br />
<br />Proposed contract with Foster and Kleiser Company for rental of the West
<br />130 feet of Lot 77 Foster's Addition at :a rental of $25.00 per year was submitted,
<br />and Councilman Hendershott moved that the City accept said contract, and that the
<br />City Recorder be authorized to sign the same for the City. Motion was seconded
<br />and carried. '

<br />.A.. communication to the Fire an4 Water Committee from E. L. King, Superin-
<br />I tendent of the Southern,Pacific Co., expressing his appreciation of the work done
<br />by the Fire Dept. at the Creswell fire Of June 1st, was read and filed.
<br />
<br />A communication from the Eugen~ Central Labor Council, protesting the
<br />! hiring of out of town men on the City Hall repair job, was l~ead, and Building
<br />Inspector Rundlett stated that he had employed one man for two and one-half days,
<br />I but upon learning that the man v~s residing in Creswell had relieved him from em-
<br />i ployment at once.

<br />Chairman Lamb of the Street Co~mi ttee moved that the bids for the grading
<br />and graveling of the alleJ- be tween Pat terson and Hilyard Streets and East Broadway
<br />and the Mill Race be rejected, and that the bid check of the Eugene Sand and
<br />Gravel Go. be returned. Motion was seconded and carried.

<br />An Ordinance amending Ordinanc~ #5577, relating to dances and dance halls,
<br />.8 was read and referred to the Police COlIlrrlittee and Chief of Police Hall.

<br />I Three Sidewalk Improvement OrdLnances were read the first time, and passed
<br />:1 their second and third readings by title by unanimous consent under suspension of
<br />the rule, and were placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called,
<br />, all councilman voting aye, nay, none. The Ordir~nces were declared passed and
<br />I numbered consecutively from 8145 to 814~, both numbers inclusive.

<br />An Ordinance prohibiting the establishing and maintenance of taxi stands
<br />or places in which conveyances for hire 'shall maintain a stand or place of business
<br />on Willamette Street or upon any cross street between Willamette Street and Oak
<br />Street or between Willamette Street and :Olive Street in the City of Eugene was
<br />read the first time, and Attorney E. O. ;Imme I appeared for the ~axi Cab Companie s
<br />and requested that the Ordinance be laid, over, with the understanding that he would
<br />take the aatter up with the City Attorne:y and Police Committee and arrive at some
<br />satisfactory agreement before the next C,ouncil meeting. The request was granted.

<br />I Eighty-four :::Udewalk Assessment Ordinances, having been read the first
<br />: time on June 8th, 1931, and registered notices for protest having been sent, oh-
<br />I jections are called for and none heard. ; A written communication from Mrs. Maude
<br />i F. Norte, objecting to the assessment against her property described as Lot 3,
<br />I Block 7, Scott's Addition, was read, and motion was made, seconded, and carried
<br />that the objection be over-ruled. The b:rdinances were then read the second and
<br />third times by title by unanimous consent under suspension of the rule, and were
<br />~' placed on their final passage. The ayes and nays were called, all councilmen votin
<br />.' aye, nay, none. The Ordinance s were dec:lared passed and numbered consecuti ve1y fro
<br />8148 to 8231, both numbers inClusive.
