M.,April 25,1932. Council was called to order by Mayor <br />Elisha Large with all oounoilmen present except Jones. <br /> <br />:Mr.. Leighton and Mr. :Oixon of the Central Heating Company disoussed <br />wi th the Council the use o:f the alley between Lincoln and Lawrence Streets and <br />First and Seeond Avenues, and Mr. Dixon offered to contribute gravel to the <br />. amount of $40 or $50 :tor improving First Street if the City would grade the <br />street and spre~d the gravel. The matter was left to the Street Commi ttee to <br />work out with the Central Heating Company. <br /> <br />Cha1man Hendershott of the Finance Committee recommended that the <br />Counoil awarcl the 'contract to audit the City books for 1931 to lIr. George <br />Carpenter'f'ol~ $200.00. On motion, duly seconded and carried, the recommendation <br />was adopted. <br /> <br />By .request the electrical ordinance was laid over. <br /> <br />Chairman Bond of the Fire and Water Committee recommended that the <br />Recorder advertise for bids for 300 feet of It inch hose and for 2t inch hose to <br />the extent of the balanoe available-- in the budget. On motion seconded and <br />carried, it was so ordered.. <br /> <br />l <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Chairman Zumwalt of the Health Committee suggested consideration of an <br />ordinance :rox' aondemnation of old buildings, and City Attorney Calkins was <br />instructed to prepare an ordinance for this purpose. <br /> <br />Application of Maggie Burns Maughn for a rooming house license at 88 <br />West 8th Street, approved by Chief of Police Bergman, was on motion granted. <br /> <br />Counailman Bond moved that the City enter into the leases with Foster <br />and Kleiser Co. of Lot 27 Mathews Park, Lot 1 Foster's Addition, and the West <br />130 feet of lot 77 Foster's Addi tion as submi tted. Motion was seaonded and <br />aarrl-ed. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Chairman Reid of the Sewer Committee recommended that the 8 inoh sewer <br />between 11th and 12th Avenues from Madison to Van Buren sts. is too small and <br />that it be replaced wi th 15 inch and 12 inch pipe, the wOl~k to be done under <br />the unemployment program and the material, estimated by the Engineer to cost <br />$586.00, to be paid out of the Trunk Sewer Bond authorization. Motion was made, <br />seconded, and carried that the work be done if satisfactory arrangements can be <br />made for financing the proJeat. <br /> <br />On motion it was ordered that lumber be purchased for the construction <br />of tables in City Parks at an estimated cost of $15.00. <br /> <br />Councilman Reid n~ved that the Recorder, in cooperation with the <br />Engineer and City X.reasurer, purchase the necessary blanks and binders for re- <br />writing the Lien Records in the Treasurer's office. The motion was seconded <br />and carried. <br /> <br />On motion it was directed that the Recorder communicate with the <br />Library Board regarding the cutting of their budget to allow for a probable loss <br />of 20% in collection of taxes. <br /> <br />On suggestion from Councilman Lamb, it' was decided to use the wood cut; <br />from City Parks in the Police room, City Jail, and Fire Dept., and Street pavingJ <br />and local use a t the Ci ty shops, wi th any unused balance to be sold to the best <br />advantage. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Councilman Edwards was directed to take up with the Park Board the <br />matter of reducing the number of elk in the City Park. <br /> <br />The .reque st of Mr. Farmer, Park Superi ntendent, for window screens <br />was presented, but the Council expressed t'he opinion that the providing of a <br />house for him was as much as the City should do, and that he should be directed <br />to furnish his own screens. <br /> <br />R.
