<br /> ~.I Chaj.rman Edwards of the JUdiciary Commi ttee re.ported regarding the
<br /> claims of Thomas Hartfiel and Grace Robertson against the City for alleged
<br /> personal inju,ries, a recommendation that the Judiciary Committee and City Attorne
<br /> be authorized, if they deem it advisable, to settle these claims on the basis of
<br /> payment of actual medical expenses. Motion was made, seconded, and carried to
<br /> adopt the recommendation.
<br /> Chairman Reid of the Sewer Committee reported that the tree -at 1403
<br /> Villard Street was on private property and was not a menace to travel upon the
<br /> street, and that there was no danger of the roots affecting the sewer. Vfuile
<br /> expressing the opinion that the owners should perhaps cut out the top, as~he .,
<br /> tree is very tall, no further recommendation was offered.
<br /> Mr. Reid also ~alled attention to the dilapidated condition of a house
<br /> on Adams Street, damaged in a recent fire and explosion, with the thought that
<br /> it should possibly be condemned, and thi s subject was referred to the Fire and
<br /> Wa tel' Commi t tee and the Gi ty Attorney.
<br /> The Recorder reported that the Library Board had responded to the
<br /> Council's request for a cut in expenses of their department with the advise that
<br /> the Library Board would be able to opera te through the remainder of this year
<br /> wi thou t furthl~r demand upon the City funds, with the understanding that proper
<br /> provision would be made for a full years bUdget for the year 1933.
<br /> I A communication from O. Laurgaard, extending an invitation to the Mayo r
<br /> I to attend the convention in Detroit next Jarmary and also urging the City to sub-
<br /> scribe to a membership in the association, was,read, and motion was made, second-
<br /> I ed, and carried that the Recorder forward the $3.00 membership fee for the en-
<br /> rollment of City Engineer, W. C. Clubb, as a member of this o!'ganiza tion.

<br /> I A ~ommuni~ation from Dorrin Dudeck of Crowe Stage Route and a clipping I
<br /> from the Monitor, Aurora, Missouri, was presented to the Council, but no action
<br /> taken.
<br /> I A remonstrance against the passage of proposed ordinance against the

<br /> :1 keeping of bees in the City of Eugene was read.
<br /> I
<br /> An Ordinance prohibiting the keeping of bees within the City of Eugene,
<br /> substituted as a new ordinance in the place of the ordinance suggested at a f'orme
<br /> meeting, passed its first and second readings, and Councilmen Hendershott and
<br /> I Jones objected to its final passage at this meeting, and it was laid over.
<br /> The Judiciary Committee and Finance Committee recommended to the Counci
<br /> I
<br /> I. that the following bills be allowed, and that a warrant be drawn to L. S. McCread'
<br /> for the total of the bills, amounting to $2,044.99, the said bills being as folIo

<br /> Motion was made and seconded t.hat said claims be paid and warrants be drawn as
<br /> stated. The ayes and nays were called, all Councilmen voting aye, nay, none,
<br /> I absent Zumwal t.

<br /> A plan was proposed for the openil~ and improving of an alley running
<br /> North and South, West of the City Jail and Eugene Hospital, which contemplated
<br /> the securing of right-of-ways for alley purposes from the Eugene Hospital, Knights
<br /> I of Pythias, and Lake Marble Works, with the thought tha t if the owners would
<br /> give the right-of-ways, the City should pay the cost of paving this alley, and
<br /> the matter was referred to the Street Committee.
<br /> Recorder R. S. Bryson gave public notice that petitions for offices I
<br /> to be filled in the coming election for the C1 ty of Eugene would be recei ved until
<br /> 12 0' clock Noon, Wednesda y, September 28 th, and that no pe ti t ions would be re-
<br /> cei ved after that time. Motion was made, seconded, and carried.
<br /> On mot io n, the Council adjourned.
