<br />Chairman Hendershott, of the Finance Committee, reported the purchase f~om
<br />Smith, Camp and Riley of a ;J;lOOO.OO City of Eugene Refunding Bond, due Decembe~
<br />1, 1936, for the sum of ~950.00 and accrued interest, and that the same had been
<br />received and paid for by the City Treasurer. On an aye and nay vote the action
<br />received the unanimous app~oval of the Council.

<br />Application of 11rs. Irene Anderson for a Hotel permit at 32t West Eighth
<br />Avenue, approved by Chief Bergman, was ordered granted.
<br />
<br />Application of liowa~d C. Ackerman for General Retailer's License, ~eported
<br />favorably by tihe Police Committee, wason motion granted.
<br />
<br />Indorsements to City Treasurer Wentworth's Bonds Nos. 7169748 and 7169749,
<br />originally issued by the now insolvent National Surety Company, whereby the
<br />National Surety Coppo~ation assumed liability for the remainder of the Bond
<br />period, were on motion accepted.
<br />
<br />Reports of the Chairman of the Health Committee, City Attorney, and Chief
<br />of Police, that buildings at 557 7th Avenue West, and 551 8th Avenue West should
<br />not be conderrmed, were .presented, and on fnotion adopted.

<br />Avenue V1est is considered danf;erous and that it should be removed.

<br />A communication from the Oregon State Game Commission urging the City to take
<br />some action toward the construction of a sewage disposal plant for the protection
<br />0:( the VIillamette River, was read, and the Hayor advised that the Ci ty Engineer
<br />has already gone forward with plans, and that the request has been made for the
<br />Reconstruction Finance Corporation's assistance.
<br />
<br />The Judiciary Committee recommended that the request of the Eurene Home
<br />Appliance ~Company for a refund of ~p15 .00, paid for Elec trical Li cense, be granted,
<br />and a mot ion was made, and seconded that the report be adopted, and the Hecorde~
<br />draw a warrant on the ~eneral Fund for said SUfi. The ayes and nays were called,
<br />Councilmen voting aye, 7, nay, none, absent Scobert.

<br />, Councilman Edwal'ds of the Pax'k Board rej)orted tha t the,;r had rece i ved a
<br />proposal to sell the City two wild cats at ~3.00 each, and a cage for $6.00. On
<br />motion, seconded and carried, the offer was rejected.

<br />An Ordinance levying assessments for the construction of a cement sidewalk
<br />on the East side of Orchard Street between 15th 0nd 17th Avenues in the City of
<br />Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, was read, and due notices for the hearing of object-
<br />ions having beeIl given, objections were called for and lvII's. Elsensohn presented
<br />her objection to the passage of this assessment, and after discussion a motion
<br />was made, seconded and carried that the objection be denied; whereupon yhe
<br />Ordinance passed its second and third readings by title under suspenSion of the
<br />~ule by unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final passage.
<br />'llhe ayes and nays vvel~e called, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Scobert.
<br />The Ordinance was declared passed ancl numbered 8332.

<br />exceptions) in the Ci ty of Eugene, Oregon; defining approved electrical materials
<br />an,d appliances, prohibiting the sale or use of unapproved appliances and materials,
<br />providing a penalty for violation hereof, repealinf-!; Ordinance No. , and all
<br />ordinance or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, was read~a.nd referred to the
<br />Judiciary Committee and City Attorney.

<br />- lIayor Large presented to the Council the request of the U. S. Army for a
<br />Camp site in Riverview Park of 170 X 320 feet, to be used for a period of six
<br />months as a headquarters camp in connection with the l"eforestration progJ::'am.
<br />MO,tion. was made, seconded and carried, granting this camping request.
<br />
<br />Upon recommendation it wa's also, on motion, ordered that under 'ltp.e direetion
<br />of the City Engineer the old City Hall Fire bell be set in concrete as a public
<br />relic, and tha t a flag pole be procured 1'01:' Ci ty Jm~"ooses.
