<br />Minutes of the ~egula~ meeting of the Common Council held at the hou~ of 7:30
<br />o'clock P.M., May 14, 1934. Council was called to o~de~ by Mayo~ La~ge, with all
<br />Councilmen p~esent except I,.1~. Reid.

<br />Minutes of the ~egula~ meeting of A'p~il 9th and the adjou~ned meeting of
<br />April 23rd we~e ~ead and app~oved.

<br />An offer of W. E. Pool to'pay the City $50.00 in consideration that it ~elease
<br />all liens against a parcel of real estate, beginning 50 feet No~th of the Southwest
<br />corner of Lot 16, Block 2, Sladden's Addition, running East 80 feet and North to
<br />S. P. Railroad, thence Northwesterly along ~ight of way to the West line of Lot 16,
<br />and South to beginning. The Applicant stated that he had bargained for this
<br />prope~ty afte~ three consecutive statements from the City T~easurer that 110 munici-
<br />pal liens were against this 'property. The matter was referred to the Finance
<br />Committee with power to act.

<br />The Finance Committee made the following recommendations and ~eports:
<br />
<br />Recommended that the T~easurer's assistant be placed under $5,000.00 bond,
<br />providing the Water Board shares the cost of premium in the same proportion as
<br />other Treasurer's bond premiums. On motion seconded and carried it was so ordered.
<br />
<br />Recommended the p~oposal of Lillie B. Alford that the City accept with the
<br />County the $580.00 Home Loan proceeds in full of all City liens and the County
<br />taxes; be rejected. On motion the recommendation was adopted.

<br />Motion was made and seconded that the purchase be approved, and the

<br />Reported the completion of the deal with 1ws. Studley by receipt of Tax
<br />DelinQuency certificate on the eight and one-half acre tract on South ~illamette
<br />Street in exchange for Deed from the City for the lot recently aCQuired by condem-
<br />nation against L. H. Mulkey. lIotion was made, seconded and carried that the action
<br />of the Committee be approved, and the action of ' the IvIayo~ and Recorder in executing
<br />the deed, be ratified and confirmed. '

<br />Recommended that the City sell back to Wm. 'E. Smith a lot on Jefferson Street,
<br />for the full amount assessed against it with interest to this date. Total consider-
<br />ation ~~483.30. This lot was foreclosed by the Ci ty and a Deed should be authorized
<br />to convey to 111'. Smith. 1Iotion was made and seco11ded to accept payment of $483.30
<br />in full of all liens, and that the Mayor and Recorder be-and are authorized to
<br />execute and deliver a Deed to Mr. Smith for this Lot, and that the T~easurer satisf'
<br />all liens in full.

<br />On recommendation of the Street Committee, by Chairman Lamb, the matter of
<br />parking on East Broadway was not changed.
<br />
<br />The possibility of widening Franklin Street ne-ar the Broadway crossing of the
<br />railroad track was referred to the City Enginee~ to take up with the State Highway
<br />Commission.

<br />Chairman Bond of the Fire and water Committee recommended that petitions for
<br />all street lights be tabled as a matter of economy until the need for these lights
<br />seems greater than it does at present. The ~ecommendation was adopted.
<br />
<br />On Mr. Bond's recommendation the Fire Department v~s autho~ized to purchase
<br />an outfit for charging batteries ata cost of ~22.50.
<br />
<br />Chairman Zumwalt, of the Health Committee, recommended the condemnation of
<br />bUildings at 1601 Orchard Street and at 245 Madison Street, and on motion it was
<br />so ordered, and the matter referred to the City Attorney to proceed with condemnat-
<br />ion.

<br />1\11'. Zumwalt also reported that the bills for heating the rest cottage seemed
<br />excessive, and that investiGation was being made of the cost of install,ine elect,ric
<br />heat, and unless more favorable terms were made by the Central Heating Plant it
<br />might be deemed advisable to change to electric heat.
<br />
<br />Chairman Simon, of the Police Commi ttee, reported for the Commi ttee that beer
<br />applications be approved for the following: L. G. Lasater, Esther Heron, C. M.
<br />Lolcama, Ca~l J. liiller, and Rich and Millard. On motion the ~ecomffiendation was
<br />adopted.
