The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent none. An Ordinance granting to the Oregon Electric Railway Company, a corporation, its successors and assi~ns, the franchise or right to lay, construct and maintain railway tracks, and to operate trains and cars thereover, and to transport passengers, freisht, mail, baggage and express thereon, and to erect, construct, maintain and operate power, telephone and telegraph lines in the City of Eugene, Oregon, w~s read the first time and referred to the Judiciary Committee. /.~' A communication, from the City Treasurer regarding the transfer of securities held to guarantee funds on deposit, from the Safety Deposit Vault in the United States National Bank in Eugene to the custody of the First national Bank in Portland, Oregon, was read and referred to the City Attorney in order to determine the proper legal action. The anplication of S. S. Simons for rebonding delinquent assessments in the J" amount of ~p195.35 ~as presented and on motion accepted. The following sealed bids for the purchase of a new car for the Police Department were opened and read: I Brown Motor Co. $438.00 Scherer Motor Co. $590.00 Ford 430.00 Lane Auto Co. 738.00- 773.00. Chevrolet 350.00 Shultz Co. 600.00 On motion of Councilman Simon this matter was referred to Cbu~cilman Bond with power to act. I A letter from the State Relief Committee giving a report of the man hours supervised by their bureau for the week ending June 24th was read and filed. A letter from the Board of Health was read and refer~ed to the Health Committee. A letter from the Bureau of Labor concerning electrical contractors etc. was read and referred to the Water Board.
