<br /> Minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at the hour of
<br /> 7~30 o'clock P. M., July 8, 1935. Council was called to order by Mayor Large,
<br /> with all Councilmen present except Mr. Reid.
<br /> Minutes o~ the regular meeting of June lOth, the adjourned meeting of June
<br /> 24th, and the special meeting of June 28th, 1935, were read and approved.
<br /> Mr. Chester Johnson of 7101 North Lombard Street, Portland, Oregon addressed
<br /> the Council, asking for a special permit to peddle caramel korn from house to
<br /> house. He pointed out that the fee of $18.00 per month as provided for in the
<br /> ordinance would be too much for him to pay, inasmuch as he is only going to work
<br /> on the part time basis and attend the University. He stated that he would be
<br /> willing to pay a license on the percentage basis. This was referred to the
<br /> >j), Judiciary Committee to report back.

<br /> Darle:'Seymour addressed the Council asking for permission to hang a sign
<br /> across the street. He pointed out that some months ago he asked the Council for
<br /> such permission and it was denied, due to the fact that there was an ordinance
<br /> prohibiting such, but since that time the Councll had allowed the Heilig Theatre
<br /> to construct a neon marquise to the edge of the'sidewalk, the Mayflower Theatre
<br /> ! permission to construct one, and the Eugene Hotel Coffee Shop to hang a sign under-
<br /> neath the Hotel sign which extende across the street. Mr. Seymour stated that it
<br /> was his belief that if such a privilege is to be granted to one it shou+d be
<br /> granted to all, and if refused one it should be refused all. This was referred to

<br /> The Judiciary Committee, by Chairman Harris, moved that the City Attorney and ....-

<br /> i City Recorder prepare a petition to the County Court asking for permission to
<br /> establish a l3ity of Eugene Dog Control Officer,' \/vhich would take effect as of
<br /> January 1, 1936, and it was so ordered.
<br /> I The Judiciary COIDrrlittee, by Chairman Harris, recorr~ended that the Oregon
<br /> Electric Franchise Ordinance be re-written. This recommendation was accepted, and
<br /> the ordinance was held over for further consideration.
<br /> . The Finance Commi ttee, by Chairman Hendershott, reported the following bi,lls
<br /> to the Council with a recommendation that they be allowed, and motion was made and
<br /> seconded that warrants be drawn for same. Councilmen Bond and Lamb reported that
<br /> the car and truck for the Police and Street Department respectively had been
<br /> purchased, and asked that the bills for the same be included in the bills allowe~.
<br /> The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Reid.
