<br /> Minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at the hour of ~J
<br /> . 7:30, o'Clock P. M., August 12, 1935. Council was called to order by Mayor Large,
<br /> with all Councilmen present except Hendershott, Reid and Zumwalt.
<br /> Minutes of the regular meeting of July 8th, the adjourned meeting of July
<br /> 22nd, and the adjourned meeting of August 5th, were read and approved.
<br /> Mrs. Delmer Dietzman of the Blue Line Cab Company, upon whom the City Attorne
<br /> had served notice of hearing on August 9, 1935, concerning the cancellation of
<br /> their taxicab license, was called upon at this,time to present her case to the
<br /> Council. At the request of City Attorney Calkins this matter was referred to the
<br /> Police Committee to enable a more complete and adequate hearing at a future date.
<br /> .' At this time Councilman Hendershott appeared in Council.
<br /> The application of Mr. Jos. Schuss for a Package Store Class B. Wine LicBnse
<br /> was,presented, and Mr. Schuss addressed the Council stating that he would operate
<br /> a high grade store and would carry a large selection of 8tock~ Upon motion of
<br /> Chairman Simon and seconded by Councilman Bond the application was not approved.
<br /> Mr. Dar1e~'Seymour pointed out that he bad made application to the Council
<br /> four weeks ago for permission to hang his sign across the street, and he was
<br /> wondering what the answer to his application was. City Engineer Clubb'pointed
<br /> out,that this had been referred to the Sign Board of Appeals, but that he had
<br /> been unable to get the Committee together. Councilman Carlson'urged that ,matters
<br /> of this nature shou~d be given immediate consideration.
<br /> Mr. H. Parsons, a Realtor, addressed the Council concerning the problem of
<br /> I putting in a sew~r at the extreme end of West Sixth Ave. Mr. Clubb pointed out
<br /> that the present sewer is too close to the ground to extend it to the end of
<br /> Sixth, and it would be necessary to construct a new line.
<br /> I Mr. Svarverud addressed the Council on the proposition of cleaning the Amazon,
<br /> and stated that he was soing to appear before'the County Court to get them to take
<br /> care of their share of it. Mr. Clubb pointed out in this case that it would be
<br /> necessary for the County to lengthen and deepen the ditch. Councilman Lamb point-
<br /> ed out that the City had always cleaned it every year.

<br /> , At this time Councilman Reid Eq:> peared in Council.
<br /> Mr. N. O. Neilson addressed the Council in behalf of a request he 'had
<br /> presented to the Zoning Board of Appeals regarding the erection of a chicken
<br /> house at 1009 1st Avenue West. The Boardts recommendation was read at this time
<br /> to deny the request and Councilman Lamb moved that the report be adopted.' The
<br /> motion was seconded by Councilman Hendershott and the motion carried. Mr.
<br /> Neilson was requested to bring in a petition from the mrrounding neighbors, and
<br /> the ,Council would be glad to reconsider his request.
<br /> The Judiciary Committee, by Chairman Harris, reported on the application of
<br /> .' the Alpha Corporation for damages in the amount of $100.00 for alleged errors
<br /> made in the Treasurer's Office on the following described property: "Beginning
<br /> at a point in the north line of Ninth Avenue West one hundred ten (llO)'feet east
<br /> of the intersection of said north line with the east line of Almaden Street, from
<br /> which point run north clOe hundred fifty (150) feet, thence east 50.57 feet, thence
<br /> south one hundred fifty (150) feet and thence wes,t 50.57 feet to the place of
<br /> beginning, in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon.o, and recommended that this claim be
<br /> denied. Motion was made, seconded and carried to adopt the recommendati6n~'

<br /> Chairman Harris, of the Judiciary Committee, asked for further time on the
<br /> proposed ordinance for Franchise with the Oregon Electric Company. This request
<br /> was granted. ~ ..- .-' '.
<br /> Chairman Hendershott, of the Finance Committee, reported the following bills
<br /> to the Council with a recommendation that they be allowed, and motion was made
<br /> I and seconded that warrants be drawn for same. The ayes and nays were called,
<br /> Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Zumwalt.
