<br /> I I Minutes of the adjourned meeting of the Common Council, held at the hour of
<br /> 7:30 o'clock P.M., December 23, 1935. Oouncil was called to order by Mayor Large
<br /> with all Councilmen present except Reid. .,.....;

<br /> Mrs. Maxham addressed the Council, first requesting the Recorder's Office
<br /> to furnish the Park Cow~ission with a certified copy of the Ordinance concerning
<br /> the Oommission and defining its duties, etc. Mrs. Maxham reported that the Park
<br /> Commission felt that under the Ordinance they had the full control, ,power and
<br /> authority to act as they saw fit concerning the parks, including the animals; and
<br /> they wished to take this opportunity to very seriously register an objection to
<br /> the proceedure of the Council in not consulting them, and not accepting their
<br /> recommendations relating to matters relative to the Parks. $he expressed the
<br /> opinion that the Mayor and Oommon Council should certainly observe the Ordinances
<br /> of the City of Eugene.
<br /> . Chai rman Bond of the Fire and Water Oommittee made the motion that the ~~75.00
<br /> bill to the Potter Mfg. 00. be cancelled, but hereafter that all calls outside the
<br /> City be charged $25.00 for the call and $15.00 per hour. This motion was seconded
<br /> and carried.
<br /> The Police Committee by Chairman Simon presented the following list of approve
<br /> beer applications for renewals, and moved for their adoption:

<br /> Councilman Hendershott inquired as to the applications that were not being
<br /> recommended by the Oommittee.
<br /> At this time Oouncilman Reid appeared in Council.

<br /> f.' The Recorder read the following list of those that had not been approved by
<br /> the Police Oommittee:

<br /> I Percy W. Bucknum, Class B. Hinshaw, Findlay & Oldham
<br /> Earl Simmons, Class B.
<br /> and Mr. Gordon Wells, representing Miller & Sylvestor, and Johnson & Johnson,
<br /> addressed the Council concerning failure of the Police OOllIDlittee's recommendation,
<br /> and asked that his clients be given their day in court to show why their appli-
<br /> cations should be 8P proved, and he further stated that thei had not been consulted
<br /> by any of the C'ommittee in any way at all, and that it certainly was the American
<br /> thing to at least give a hearing to the parties involved. Frank Reid, representing
<br /> -I Hinshaw, Findlay and Oldham, addressed the Council concerning the rejection of
<br /> their application. Mr. Reid pointed out that it appearBd that the Police Committee
<br /> had determined to do away with all beer parlors on Park Street and wished to point
<br /> out that his clients! parlor was not on Park, but on East 8th and the entrance to
<br /> this parlor was on 8th Street. ' He asked that they at least be given a hearing to
<br /> present their case in an attempt to see that justice was thoroughly done. Oouncil-
<br /> man Sirrron then took the floor and defended the position of the Pffilice Committee,
<br /> and pointed out that they were not in any way denying them their day in court and
<br /> it was yet to come. In the event that they, wished to appeal their case to the
<br /> State Liquor Oontrol Conwission, then the Oity would have to show cause why the
<br /> application should not be granted, and they were ready and willing to do so. Mr.
<br /> Reid again addressed the Council stqting that at least nine cases out of ten and
<br /> .
