<br />A letter from Mrs. Polly Wilson concerning an accident on the sidewalk at

<br />Written offer from Mr. Sanders was presented concerning a proposed lease for
<br />the Airport~ and the Judiciary Committee recommended that-it be adopted. Motion
<br />was made, seconded and carried to accept their recommendation. This lease ,to be
<br />dated February 1, 1936 and run to January 1, 1937.
<br />
<br />Reports for the month of January from the City Engineer, the Eugene Public
<br />Library, and the Fire Department, and the November and December 1935 monthly
<br />reports from the Police Matron were, neEid and ordered filed.

<br />, An Ordinance permitting ~nd authorizing ~he erection and construction of
<br />memorial monuments and/or buildings, pioneer memorials or pioneer museums pur-
<br />suant to an Act of the Special Session of the 1935 Legislature, being Senate Bill
<br />No. 60, was read the th~rd time, and Mrl Oal Young addressed the Council pointing
<br />out that all they w,ished was space for their buildings and to beautify their
<br />grounds, and Counci1man Carlson stated that icf anyone wanted to beautify that
<br />butte they should be allowed to do so. Mr. Calkins pointed out that this would
<br />not shut out the City's interest, that it just gave the Pioneer Committee per-
<br />mission to erect a museum. The Ordinance was placed upon its final passage and
<br />the ayes and nays ealled, Councilmen voting aye 7, nay none, absent Zumwalt. The
<br />Ordinance was declared passed and nl~bered 8466.

<br />The Recorder presented a request of the Manerud-Huntington Fuel Company for
<br />permission to use the ground where the old Jerry Boggs barn was at 3rd and
<br />Lincoln Street, upon their agreement to clean up the premises. This was referred
<br />to the Street Committee. The Recorder was instructed 'to advertise for bids on
<br />sand and gravel for the year 1936. Bids to be opened February 24, 1936.

<br />The Recorder presented the problem of the disposition of the Gaylord
<br />property from the basement of the City Hall, and this wqs referred to the
<br />Judiciary Committee and City Attorney.

<br />Application from Mr. & Mrs. Gus Anderson, for a Hotel at 623 Willamette'
<br />Street was presented and approved. ,

<br />An Ordinance de~laring the intention of the Common Council of the City of
<br />Eugene to make a reassessment of the cost of repairing a concrete sidewalk on the
<br />East side of Washington between Cheshire Street and the end of Plat, in the City
<br />of Eugene, as the same abuts upon the property hereinafter described, and fixing
<br />a time and place for holding a meeting of the Common Council at which all protests
<br />against such reassessment shall be heard, and directing the giving of notices,
<br />was read the first time and held over.

<br />The Mayor introduced the subject of a Sewage Disposal Plant, and asked Mr.
<br />Clubb to explain the situation. Mr. Clubb pointed out that a Consultant
<br />Engineer had been through and was willing to present plans to the Common C,ouncil
<br />if they were interested. Councilman Reid stated that he thought this was very
<br />necessary, stating that we would have to do this ~ithin five years anyway and as
<br />long as money was available through the Government we should take advantage of it.
<br />Mr. Carlson brought up the subject of the bond issue, and Mayor Large stated that
<br />they would be revenue bonds, and not general obligation bonds, but would have to
<br />Rave be approved by a vote of the people. Mr. Lamb moved that this,gentleman,
<br />Mr. Hill, Consultant Engineer, be invited to explain the system to the Common
<br />Council, and the Recorder be instnucted to write to Mr. C. C. Hockley as to
<br />whether or not the amount of money necessary for the construction of this plant
<br />could still be had for that purpose. Motion was seconded and carried.

<br />Councilman Bond presented the Question of billboards on Lot 77, Foster's
<br />Addition between Van Buren and Grand Streets,. and asked that this contract with
<br />the sign company be cancelled and this property leased to owners of the Lumber
<br />Co. who are willing to pay the same amount of money and agreed to keep this in
<br />lawn. Motion was made, seconded and carried to make this change, and the Recorder
<br />directed to write Foster and Kleiser of this cbndition.
