In regard to pin and ball machines, City Attorney Calkins stated that the v'1 present state statutes are all that are necessary to protect the machine owners c..rt from the operations of players who are said to cheat the devices, and that the .. ~t ." City Recorder was granted permission to accept the first quarter license fees ...._~ ........45 on Pin and Ball machines. The matter of planting shrubs and trees in parking strips was placed in' the /46- hands of the Park Board. Councilman Zumwalt asked tl;1e council to approve expenditures of money neces- sary to make 11th Street east to west a through street. No action was taken and I 47 the matter was held indefinitely. ~ A change from the use of gas to electricity for the purpose of heating water for the fire department employees was ordered as it was determined that such a /48 change would mean a considerable saving to the city. At this time CG>!J,ncilmen Simon, Zumwalt and Harris expressed their appreciation to the common council for the fine spiri t of cooperati-on experienced by them during 49 their terms of service with the council.
