Leavitt for such purchase be and the <br /> <br />same is hereby rejected and any contra~tual relations are here- <br />by rescinded and the Treasurer is directed ~o return to the said <br />Linden G. Leavitt the check for $lOOO~OO. <br /> <br />Be it further resolved that the hereto attached contract with <br /> <br />James A. Rodman for the purchase of Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6r 15 <br /> <br />and 16 of Block 30, Driverton Addition, be and the same is hereby <br /> <br />adopted and ratified by the city of ~ugene, atid the Recorder and <br /> <br />Mayor be and they are hereby directed to execute the same on be- <br /> <br />half of the city and to make delivery thereof upon the payment <br /> <br />by James A. Rodman to the city of $977.93. <br /> <br />Mayor Large reported that the State Legislature had turned down the program <br />or the League of Oregon Cities for a refund to the cities on the gasoline tax. He <br />stated that a bill had been intwodoced providing for a separate municipal accountin <br />by the ~tate Industrial Accident Commission as it has been disclosed that cities ar <br />paying apportionment far in excess of that of any other contributor, based upon <br />their losses. Mayor Large asked that a'resolution be approved by the council and <br />copies of the same transmitted to the Lane County delegation with an urgent plea <br />that they support the measure. A resolution was presented and upon motion made and <br />seconded was duly approved: <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, studies made by the Bureau of Municipal rtesearch of the <br /> <br />University of Oregon, has disclosed that cities are paying to <br /> <br />the ~tate Industrial Accident Commission apportionment far in ex- <br /> <br />cess of that of any other contributor, based upon their losses, <br /> <br />Therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the common council of the city of Eugene, that <br />the bill introduced by ~enator Angell, providing for a separate <br />municipal accounting by the otate Industrial Accident Commission, <br /> <br />receive the endorsement of this municipality, and the Hecorder <br /> <br />be and he is hereby directed to transmit to the Lane County De- <br /> <br />legation a copy of this resolution; that this resolution further <br /> <br />constitute a request that said delegation support the measure. <br /> <br />Mayer Large reported that the League of uregon Cities succeeded in killin <br />the bill that would have reduced the city's share in dog license commissions from <br />,40 eighty to fifty per cent. <br /> <br />Councilman Bond, chairman of the Police Committee, reported that on <br />the evening of February 1'7, 1937, Chief of ~olice C. F. Bergman, acting under <br />authority of Hule-XXII.L, bection I( of the [{ules of the Civil ~ervice Commission, <br />did then and there suspend ufficer Henry Uallagher from the police force of the <br />city of ~ugene. The Police Committee in a special session held uaturday, ~'ebruary <br />20, 1937, with City Attorney ~. M. Calkins and Chief of ~olice Bergman in attendanc , <br />did after due deliberation of the charges made by Mr. Bergman, determine to recom- <br />mend to Mayor Large and members of the Com~on vouncil the dismissal of officer <br />Gallagher under authority of Rule XXIII, 0ection 2 (a) and (b). Therefore, we the <br />Police Committee of the Gommon vouncil of the city of ~ugene do hereby recommend <br /> <br />the adoption of the above report and upon motion made and seconded the question of <br /> <br />/1 <br />I <br />! <br />I: <br /> <br />.... <br />
