Thomason <br /> <br />311.62 <br /> <br />Minna Hadley appeared before the council and stated that the Richfield <br />Service Station at the corner of 13th and Lawrence had received permission to <br />construct a work shop on their lot which would be adjacent to their home and .if <br />this building were constructed, it would shut off the light and view in the <br />living room of her house and petitioned the council that such authority for con- <br />struction of this shop be not granted. City Engineer Clubb pointed out that the <br />council had authorized erection of this proposed building and stated that it <br />would be necessary for them to rescind their former action and take the matter <br />under consideration. The council rescinded its former action ordering the city <br />engineer's office to not grant a permit for said construction and refer the pro- <br />blem to the Board of Appeals. <br /> <br />Resolution requesting the ~tate Highway Commission to open the McKenzie <br />Highway to traffic as early a date as possible was presented and upon motion made <br />and seconded was duly adopted: <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The McKenzie River Highway in cf'ossing the summ.i t of the Cascade <br /> <br />Range, affords ingress to and e~ress from the willamette Valley and <br /> <br />~HEREAS, there has developed in recent years a very great interest in the <br /> <br />recreational area known locally as the Sisters Area, as a winter playground, which <br /> <br />is resorted to by many people and which is in a state of development as the result <br /> <br />of certain outdoor organizations, and <br /> <br />~HEREAS, The season has advanced to a point where the opening of the <br /> <br />~HEREAS, The opening of the Highway constitutes a great economic and a <br /> <br />great recreational asset to the state, and particularly to this section of the <br /> <br />State <br /> <br />Therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED By the Cornman Council of the City of Eugene that this <br /> <br />resolution constitute a memorial to the ~tate Highway Commission, requesting its <br /> <br />cooperation in the matter of opening the McKenzie Highway through to eastern <br />Oregon from the Willamette Valley and the Common Council of the City of Eugene <br />does hereby respectfully petition and urge upon the State Highway Commission the <br />very great advantage which the opening of the highway will entail. <br /> <br />~ <br />
