Upon motion made and seconde-d the <br />Fire and Water Committee was given power to act to purchase the necessary furniture. <br />, 'Sil <br />At this time councilman Farrington, chairman of the Health Committee, regis ,~ <br />tered a formal complaint to the effect that a dump groun~ was being established~' <br />at the corner of 18th and High Streets in the city. It was agreed that the police <br />should investigate and with the aid of the Street Department immediately clear up <br />the property of the debris. <br /> <br />( 16 <br /> <br />,)7 It was reported that an unsanitary condition existed at 37 Eas~ 11th Street. <br /> <br />Councilman Page, chairman of the Park Committee, reported that trucks were <br />still using the roadways of the park. It was pointed out that signs had not been <br />placed preventing trucks from using the roads. Signs were ordered to be installed <br />and Charles Sullivan, Superintendent of Parks, as an officer of the city was to <br />,18 stop the trucks traveling on the roads and m~ke arrests if necessary. <br /> <br />It was reported that the center strips of Agate and Villar~ Streets had not <br />been weeded. Mayor Large asked that further time be granted in the hope that pro- <br />jects under WPA would terminate so that help would be available., <br /> <br />/,,19 <br /> <br />The Sewer Committee reported that they had no recommendationto make in re- <br />gard to Charles Cutler request for sewer connection with the city. This action <br />I 20 on the part of the Committee was approved. <br /> <br />The Sewer Committee was granted an appropriation of $200.00 from th' <br />/ 21 emergency fund for sewer construction at 17th and Willamette Streets. <br /> <br />In regard to the Fairmount drainage situation, the Sewer Committee reported <br />that there was not sufficient funds in the Sewer Department account for tiling and <br />it was not advisable to construct an open ditch and that there was a balance of <br />$148.45 in the Trunk Sewer Account that might be used for this type of work. The <br />( 22 Commi ttee was granted further time for consideration of the problem. <br /> <br />Reouest of State Health Officer Stricker to install a vacuUm breaker on <br />the flush ~alve on the new toilet combination in the men's rest room at the Rest <br />Cottage was held for further consideration. <br /> <br />/23 <br /> <br />I <br />(24 "'-.! <br /> <br />The Police Committee recommended the employment of Edward Kuni, as city dog <br />catcher for a period of two weeks at the rate of $4.00 per day. The recommendation <br />of the Committee was duly approved. <br /> <br />The Police Committee recommended transfer of Retail Beer Class liB" Lieense <br />from R. C. Wynekoop to Earl,A. Simmons (The Lutch Mill) and Retail Beer Class HB" <br />License from P. L. Durkee to Fred J. Adlard (Tip Top LunCh). Hequests for Package <br />btore Class "BII License ~o David Asnervig lDavels Bakery and Delicatessen Shop) <br />and Merle chort (Jiffy Lunch) are being held by the Committee for ,consideration.; <br />Councilman Bond suggested that no more recommendations for licenses with the pos- <br />sible exception of the above two be granted by the council hereafter. This re- <br />commendation upon motion made and seconded was carried by unanimous vote of the <br />25 council. <br /> <br />; 26 <br /> <br />Councilman Bond reported that the police radio was being tested and that <br />stations in California and Portland had picked up the local calls. Mr. Bond re- <br />quested perlliission to employ a carpenter to set up that part of the room occupied <br />by the radio so that it would not be open to the general public. The police com- <br />mittee was granted this permission. <br /> <br />Payment of $1000 to H. W. ~hite Electric Company was held until the next <br />meeting at which time the Inspector of Board of Federal Communications will have <br />/27 made an inspection and a license will be obtained to o~erate the station. <br /> <br />Chairman Bond of the Police Committee stated that he had been requested to <br />make Olive between 10th and 11th and 11th between Olive and the alley restricted <br />/28 to parking. The problem was held for two weeks. <br /> <br />Petition for 15-minute parking in front of the Miner Building was being <br />129, held by the Police Committee for study. <br /> <br />Petition requesting two-hour parking on North, Eas~, South and West Park <br />Streets was referred to the Police Committee. <br /> <br />/30 <br /> <br />;31 <br /> <br />The Council sustained the action of the Board of Appeals in denying the, <br />re~uest of ~m. A. Monge for permission to build an addition to nis nouse, 590 <br />Tyler Street, ~o be used as an apartment. <br /> <br />Request of M. P. Bonnett asking for permit to erect a cold storage plant <br />on the rear of the property, '(54 Lincoln btreet was denied by the Board of Appeals <br />/32 and action sustained by the Council. <br /> <br />~ <br />
