C. East was upon fuotion made, seconded and duly carried, adopted: <br /> <br />RESOLUT.!ON <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Eugene i~ the owner of Lot 4, Block 3, <br />Shaw's Second Addition to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, and <br /> <br />WHEFEAS, the City of Eugene has heretofore entered into <br />a lease and option of.purchase of said premises with Netta <br />Kress Pennington, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Netta Kress Pennington has assigned said lease <br />and option to H. C. East, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, H. C. East has exercised said option and paid <br />the purchase-price therein set out in full, with interest, <br />and has complied with all the terms and conditions thereof, <br /> <br />Now, Therefore <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene, <br />'that the Mayor and Recorder be and they are hereby directed <br />to execute and deliver to H. C. East a good and sufficient <br />deed of conveyance to the above described property, on be- <br />half of the City of Eugene <br /> <br />Councilman Page reported that Clyde Johnston had made request for the <br />cutting of a large maple tree on the parking strip ~f his property at 7th and <br />Washington Streets and that the same had been denied upon recommendation of the <br />Park Committee. Clarence Simon, acting chairman of the Park Board, stated that <br />all trees that had been removed in the immediate' past were done at the authorization <br />of either Chairman Wilkins or himself. Upon motion made and seconded, the report <br />/30 of the Park Board was duly approved. . <br /> <br />The following resolution was upon motion made, seconded and duly carried, <br />(31 was adopted: <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />i. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the following proclamation be issued by the <br />president of the council acting in place of the Mayor: <br /> <br />"May 30 has been set aside as a day on which to honor the memory <br />of the soldiers and sailors of the United States who lost their <br />lives while serving the country and the memory of those who in <br />later years laid down the burdens of life. <br /> <br />This is a great national holiday observed throughout the land. <br />and inasmuch as this date falls upon Sunday this year and the <br />day folloWing is usually observed as a holiday in such cases, <br /> <br />Therefore,._ it is fitting that the citizens of Eugene lay aside:,. <br />all business and observe.the day in a manner that will do proper <br />honor to all dead, <br /> <br />Therefore, as acting Mayor of the ci ty of Eugene in the absence, <br />of Mayor Elisha Large, I call upon the people of Eugene to <br />observe Monday, May 31 as a day on which to pay tribute to the <br />na tion' s defenders and to decorate the grave.s of our loved ones." <br /> <br />Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting of the common council was <br />32 herewith adjourned. <br /> <br />IJ <br /> <br />C.
