<br /> portation within the city only be required, pointing out that the city of Portland
<br /> operated on the latter basis and that their revenue was much less than $1000.00..
<br /> Mr. R. s. Bryson, representing 5th Avenue residents stated that the extension from
<br /> one to two years fov the repair work was satisfactory. tie felt, however, that the
<br /> city should receive a reasonable franchise fee. Upon motion made, seconded and .
<br /> du,ly carried, the ordinance was amended to allow the two year period of time. It
<br /> was moved and seconded that the franchise also carry an annual fee of $1000.00.
<br /> The ayes and nays were called; councilmen voting aye, Hendershott, Heid, Hanns and
<br /> Bond; nay, Lamb, Page, ~arrington and Carlson. It being a tie vote, the Mayor was
<br /> reqUired to cast his vote, which was negative, the motion thereby being lost. It
<br />.' was moved and seconded that the fee be placed at $500.00 a year and it was passed
<br /> by a vote of 6 to.2. Councilmen voting aye, Lamb, Hendershott, Page, Hanns, f:l'ar-
<br /> /5 rington, Carlson; nay, ~eid and Bond.
<br /> An ordinance granting to Oregon-Electric Railway Company, a corporation,
<br /> its successors and assigns, the franchise to maintain its present railway tracks
<br /> in the city of cugene and to operate trains and cars thereover, and to transport
<br /> passengers, freight, mail, baggage and express thereon, and to maintain its present
<br /> poles and wires in the city of ~ugene, vregon, had its third reading and was placed
<br /> 16 on its final passage. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8514.
<br /> At this time Wm. w. Harcombe, attorney, appeared before the council on
<br /> behalf of Mrs. Cora J. Woods, who 1s building a residence at 734 E. 14th and is
<br /> having some difficulty by reason of the fact that the neighboring garage adjacent
<br /> thereto is built within two feet of the sidewalk which destroys the building line
<br /> of that section. He asked that some action be taken to remedy this condition. The
<br /> ,7 matter was referred to the tiealth Commi'ttee.
<br />I Mrs. Catherine Flynn, 612 East Broadway, asked that permission be granted
<br /> for reclassification of her property located at the southeast corner of the inter-
<br /> section at Broadway and rattersonbtreet so that she m!ght sell said property for
<br /> the purpose of the erection-of a service station. Inasmuch as the council from
<br /> a personal point of view expressed favoritism toward such a request, they felt that
<br /> I the same could not be allowed by reason of the fact that in the past requests of
<br /> a similar nature had been denied. Upon motion made, seconded and duly carried, the
<br /> recommendation of the Bosrd of Appeals to deny this request was herewith sustained
<br /> /8 by the council.
<br /> Herbert Lombard, attorney representing Mr. L. H. Dery, Creswell, asked'
<br /> for cancellation of interest in the amount of $99.84 upon payment of principal,
<br /> ~p285.l1, on assessments against the north 94.5 feet of the following description:
<br /> "Commencing at a point 66 feet north of the northwest corner of Block 6, Packard's
<br /> Addition and running thence east 00 feet, thence north 177 feet to the south line
<br /> of the right of way, thence west 60 feet, more or less, to a point due north of the
<br /> beginning point, and thence south to the place of beginning all being in Eugene,
<br /> /9 Lane County, Oregon. The matter was referred to the Judiciary Committee.
<br />. The $400.00 offer of Mrs. H. B. Yocom for property described as "Beginning
<br /> at the NE corner of Lot 1, Block 22, Fairmount, thence_west 70 feet,' thence .south
<br /> 90 feet, thence east to the west line of Fairmount Boulevard, and thence Northerly
<br /> ,10 to the place of beginningll was denied by the Finance Committee and it was so ordere .

<br /> I Mr. D. F. Mains' offer to pay the city the sum of $370.00, $50.00 cash and 1
<br /> I $12.50 per month with interest at 6% on deferred payments together with payment
<br /> of all ~ack taxes on property being the south 50 feet of the north 150 feet of Lot
<br /> I 4, Block 23, ~airmount Addition, was accepted by the council by unanimous approval.
<br /> It was pointed out that Charles T. Frisbee formerly deeded this property to the cit
<br /> and took a contract back to purchase it from the city, the redemption price to be
<br /> /11 $349.68 with 6% interest from August 22, 1936.
<br /> John Hakanson's offer to redeem Lot 4, Block 21, First Addition to City
<br />,I Outlook at $150.00, $10~00 cash and $5.00 per month until fully paid was denied
<br /> and a counter-offer of $25.00 down at the rate of $10.00 per month extended. This
<br /> /12 recommendation was duly approved.
<br /> Isaac N. Park's request for cancellation of interest and costs of adver-
<br /> tising be cancelled upon payment of principal in the amount of $13.45 on the South
<br /> 65 feet of Lot 10, Huddleston's Amended Addition was denied by the council and It
