<br /> Councilman Farrington asked if Milk and Meat Inspector L. G. Helterline
<br /> could be permitted to replenish his gasoline needs from the city pump and
<br /> charging the same to his account. After some discussion, the question being put
<br /> that he be allowed, was lost and Dr. Helterline is to receive his salary plus
<br />* 18 gasoline expense money as in the past.

<br /> Park Committee by Councilman Page, stated that the city engineer had pre-
<br /> ~ared an estimate on fencing the deer and elk pen and that the same would cost
<br /> 1108.20. Mr. Page moved that this improvement be made and funds be drawn from
<br /> the emergency account. The motion was seconded. Councilmen voting aye, Lamb,
<br /> Hendershott, Reid, Page, Hanns, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay, none; absent,
<br /> ;19 none.
<br /> Councilman Reid in re-opening the Walter Zarewski request, recommended that
<br /> the claim for damages by reason of the sewer backing up at the Zarewski residence
<br /> be granted to the extent of $3.75. Councilmen voting aye, Lamb, Hendershott, Reid,
<br /> 120 Page, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay, Hanns, Absent, none.
<br /> Councilman Bond, chairman of the Police Committe~, recommended transfer of
<br /> Package A and Retail Beer licenses to the Lone Star Cafe (JoeD. Hale) moving
<br /> from 529 Willamette to 663 Willamette. This recommendation was unanimously ap-

<br /> Councilman Bond recommended the payment of $111.07~astelloe and stocker
<br /> for electrical services rendered the police headquarters in their recent improve-
<br /> ments. Councilmen voting aye for payment of the bill were Lamb, Hendershott, Reid,
<br /> I 23 Page, Hanns, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; nay, none; absent, none.
<br /> I Mr. Bond reported that a number of complaints had been received from Mr.
<br /> John A. Zimmer concerning the nightly operations of the Pierce Machine ~hop. City
<br /> Attorney Calkins stated that if Zimmer wished to file a complaint that he should
<br /> r 24 appear at the office of the city recorder and in this way abate the nuisance.
<br /> Councilman Hendershott reported that Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Renshaw, proprietors
<br /> of the Smeed Hotel, complained about the usage of fire crackers and excessive
<br /> noises adjacent to the hotel. The police chief said that everything was being
<br />. / 25 done to alleviate'the disturbance.
<br /> Both councilmen Lamb' and Bond complained that logging trucks were making a
<br /> 26 nuisance of themselves in failing to provide their vehicles with mufflers.

<br /> Mayor,Large reported on his recent trip to California wherein he attended
<br /> the Western Regional Conference of Mayors, stating that he found the meeting very
<br /> interesting as enjoyable. At the conclusion of the conference he with Mrs. Large
<br /> attended the celebration of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge which was very
<br /> impressive. ht this time he expressed sincere appreciation to members of the city
<br /> for the fine motor robe presented them prior to their trip. Councilman Hendershott
<br /> on behalf of the council expressed the opinion that the ci~y of ~ugene was pleased
<br /> to have had the opportunity of delegating Mayor and Mrs. Large to California a~
<br /> /27 representatives of this city.
<br />I Request from Ransom Miller for a permit to erect an addition to the store
<br /> building at the southeast corner of,15th and Ferry Streets which has been under
<br /> consideration since March 19, was denied by the Board of Appeal~ and this action
<br /> / 28 was sustained by the council.
<br /> Letter from Fred Crosby asking for a permit to erect a new greehhouse at
<br /> the east end of Garden Avenue was granted by the Board of Appeals and sustained
<br /> (29 by the council.
