<br />BE IT RESOLVED, By the Common Council of the City of Eugene
<br />that the Mayor and Recorder be and they are hereby directed
<br />to execute a bargain and sale deed to T. H. Garrett and Mary
<br />J. Garrett, husband and wife, for the above described property f~
<br />and to accept in payment therefor the sum of $375.00. ~.:;
<br />
<br />Councilman Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and ~ater Committee, approved the
<br />request to raise the street light located at 15th and Kincaid streets and also to
<br />install a larger light. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was dul
<br />accepted.
<br />
<br />The recommendation of the Fire and Water Committee 'that a charge of $6.00
<br />be billed D.S. Milne for services rendered by the Fire Department on a suburban run,
<br />was upon motion made and seconded, approved.
<br />
<br />Councilman Bond, member of the Fire and Water Committee, stated he had tw
<br />reports on fire department calls; One for purpose of r~scuing a lady from the river
<br />who had attempted suicide and two boys from the Willamette river who had tipped ove
<br />in their attempts to run the rapids. Mr. Bond's recommendation that the city adher'
<br />to its policy to make no charges in such emergencies, was upon motion made and
<br />seconded, approved. '

<br />An ordinance providing for the assurance of a pure water supply in the
<br />of Eugene, had its first reading and was held over for further consideration.
<br />
<br />Resolut~on denouncing ,the premise designated as the Yates Hotel as a
<br />dangerous building and a recommendation that the same be dismantled, was upon motio
<br />made and duly seconded, adopted by the council:

<br />
<br />WHEREAS, there has been presented to the Common Council of
<br />the City of Eugene, reports from the Chief of Police~ Chief
<br />of the Fire Department, Chairman of the Health Committee,
<br />the City Attorney and the Building Inspector of the City of
<br />Eugene, each and all denouncing the buildings on that certain
<br />premises designated as the Yates Hotel or Apartments located
<br />at 372 7th Avenue East in Eugene, Oregon, as dangerous build-
<br />ings as defined in Ordinance No. 8292, recommending to the
<br />Common Council that the same be dismantled.

<br />THEREFORE,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED, By the Common Council of the City of Eugene,
<br />that a public hearing is hereby called to be held in the
<br />Council Chambers in the City Hall in the City of Eugene at
<br />seven-thirty o'clock P.M. on Monday the 9th day of May, 1938
<br />at which time and place all persons interested will be heard
<br />upon the question as to whether or not the buildings located.
<br />at ~72 7th Avenue East in the City of Eugene, Oregon and known
<br />as the Yates Hotel or Apartments are dangerous under the pro-
<br />visions of Ordinance No. 8292 and as a part of said hearing
<br />the Common Council itself shall inspect said buildings and such
<br />inspection shall be considered by it in determining whether or
<br />not said buildings are dangerous.
<br />
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Recorder be and he is
<br />hereby directed to forthwith mail to Frank L. Chambers and
<br />Edith K. Chambers at 1059 Hilyard Street in Eugene, Oregon, the
<br />owners of said property,notice of the time and place and pur-
<br />pose of said hearing and that at said time and place this
<br />Council shall determine by resolution whether or not said
<br />buildings are dangerous. In addition thereto the City Recorder
<br />shall give ten days notice of such hearing in the Eugene
<br />Register-Guard, a newspaper published in Eugene, Lane County,
<br />Oregon, and by posting notices thereof in three public places
<br />in said city of Eugene.
