<br /> ~:.: The minutes of the regular meeting of the Common Council held at the
<br /> hour of" 7::30 o'clock P.M.." July 11, 1938. Mayor Elisha Large presided over the
<br /> meeting. Councilmen present were: Messrs. Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Page, Hanns
<br /> 1 Farrington and Bond; absent, Carlson.
<br /> The minutes of the previous meeting, June 27, 1938, were presented and
<br /> 2 ordered filed.
<br /> Fred Lamb, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, asked for a period of I
<br /> two weeks' time to consider the request of HildoO. Rogers and upon motion made
<br /> /3 and seconded, it was granted.
<br /> The Judiciary Committee was likewise granted an additional two weeks
<br /> (~ to study the sidewalk injury claim submitted by Mrs. A. B. Norris.
<br /> Councilman Lamb reported that City Attorney Calkins would be prepared
<br /> to report on the Ramey Rugh" et ale contract as soon as the matter had been tm en
<br /> (5 to court.
<br /> Upon motion made and dul~ seconded, the recommendation of the Judiciary
<br /> Committee that the proposed amendment, as submitted by C. Madison Landaker, to
<br /> 6 the ordinance regulating the s~e of salacious magazines, be denied, was approved
<br /> I
<br /> The $500.00 cash offer of F. Hastings for Lot 1, Block 7, Fairmount:
<br /> Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $1000 exten-
<br /> ded. Upon motion made and duly seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was
<br /> 7- duly approved.

<br /> The $600.00 cash offer of George Myrmo for Lot 10, Block 7, Fa1rmount
<br /> Addition, was accepted 'by the Finance committee and upon motion made and duly
<br /> seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was unanimously approved and the
<br /> Treasurer's Office herewith instructed to proceed with the execution of the neces
<br /> sary pa~ers in confirmation of the sale as directed by the general resolution ada ted I
<br /> by the -ommon Council on June 13, 1938 authorizing such action and it was so or-
<br /> 8 dered.

<br /> The $300.00 offer of C. D. Quinn for property described as "Beginning
<br /> on the North line of 11th Street 73 feet West of the West line of Van Buren Stree ,
<br /> running thence N~rth 60 feet, thence West 7 f~et, thence North 50 feet, thence
<br /> West 40 feet, thence South 110 feet to the North line of 11th Avenue West, thence
<br /> East 47 feet to the place of beginning, all in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, was
<br /> /9 denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $400..00 extended..
<br /> A second offer from Eldred D. Ferguson in the amount of $215~00 for
<br /> property described as:" Beginning at a point 66 feet North of the intersectlon of
<br /> the North line of 10th Avenue with the West line of Taylor Street and running
<br /> thence North 66 feet (plus), thence West 95 feet, thence South 66: feet (plus),
<br /> thence East 95 feet to the place of beginning.." was rejected by the Finance Com-
<br /> 10 mittee and upon motion made and seconded, recommendation approved by the Council.

<br /> Block 1, Walters and Seiffert's Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and
<br /> a counter-offer of $538.47 extended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recom-
<br /> 11 mendation of the Committee was duly approved.
<br /> 1 The $450.00 cash offer of Mrs. L. C. Bond for Lot 4, Block 8, Croner's
<br /> Addition (formerly sold by the city to Mrs. A. W. Cole, who cannot accept it), wa
<br /> duly approved by the Finance Committee and, upon motion made and seconded, the re- I
<br /> commendation of the Committee was unanimously approved, and the Treasurer's Offic
<br /> herewith instructed to proceed with the execution of the necessary papers in con-
<br /> firmation of the sale as directed by the general resolution adopted by the Common
<br /> 12 Council on June 13, 1938, authorizing such action and it was so ordered.
<br /> J Communication from W. B. Dillard, County Clerk, notifying the council
<br /> of receipt of a bid by them for the "North 5 feet of the South 58 feet of Lot 6,
<br /> Block 3, Maplecroft Addition, Eugene, against which the city has liens in the I
<br /> amount of $52.84, was presented. 'rhe taxes necessary to pay the Courity on this i
<br /> $11..63, and the Finance Committee recommended that the taxes be paid in order' to
<br /> 13 proteet the city's liens and it was so ordered upon motion made and seconded.
<br /> J An offer from~. w. Siegr ist in the amount of $600.00 for Lot. 2, Block
<br /> Maplec.roft Addition, was den ied by the Finance Commi ttee and a counter-off'er' of'
<br /> $800..00 extended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Com-
<br /> 1.4 mittee was duly approved.
<br /> ( The Finance Committee reported the following bills to the council with
<br /> a recommendation that they be allowed and motion was made, seconded and carried
<br /> that warrants be drawn for the same. The ayes and nays were called, councilmen
<br /> voting aye: Lamb, Hendershott, Hanns, Page, Farrington, Reid, and Bond; absent~
