<br /> Resignation of W. L. Valentin from the Eugene Boxing Commission was
<br /> 20 by the eouncil and the appointment of Edward Adams to succeed him approved.

<br /> Mr. John Beakey, Traffic Engineer for the State Highway Commission, appeare
<br /> before the council and gave the estimated cost of the traffic signals to be installe
<br /> by the city on the seven intersections listed herein: Willamette at 6th, 7th, 8th,
<br /> Broadway, 10th and 11th and Broadway at Oak. (Estimated Cost- $9162.00) The Highwa
<br /> Commission is to participate on a 50-50 basis on the installation of lights at five
<br /> intersections; and the city of Eugene to stand 100 per cent on the other two. The
<br /> Cit,y Attorney was instructed to prepare a contract between the State Highway Com-
<br /> mission and the City of Eugene and the Mayor and Recorder Were authorized to execute
<br /> 21 the same.

<br /> Communication from the Western Unipn relegraph Company wperein they accept
<br /> the terms and conditions of the franchise ordinance as submitted by the city, was
<br /> 22 presented and ordered filed.

<br /> City Attorney S. M.. Calkins stated that the Postal Telegraph Company were
<br /> 23 interested in executing a like ordinance and steps would ,be taken to prepare one.

<br /> Requ~st. from "Tohn Durr- asking for waiver of certain reg}.llations of the
<br /> Building Code in the construction of an addition to the residence which he is erect-
<br /> ing at 1491 Mill Street, was denied by the Board of Appeals and action sustained by
<br /> 24 the council.

<br /> Request from Bruce McKenzie asking for permission to sel~ within the City
<br /> a type of cottage erected in panel sections, was presented. It was pointed out that I
<br /> this cottage in no way conforms to the requirements of the Building Code and the
<br /> Board recommends that thisrequest be denied, but that prospective purchasers be allo ed
<br /> to make requests for the installation of these cottages. This actJon was duly con-
<br /> 25 firmed by members of the council.

<br /> Payment of Playgrounds employees' salaries from the Revolving Fund was
<br /> authorized and the Mayor and Recorder instructed to execute the same. It was an-
<br /> 26 nounced that Friday, August 26, terminated the playground activities for the year 19 8.

<br /> ceipt of $75.00 rent and $120.55 Commissions by the City for the period commencing
<br /> Apr 11 1 to August 18, 1938, inclusive, was presented and met with very .Lavorable
