<br />I The minutes of the adjourned meeting of the Common Council held at the ~
<br />hou~ of 7:30 ofclock P.M., October 24r 1938. Mayor Large presided over the meeting. ~-'

<br />The minutes of the previous meeting, October 10, 1938, were presented and
<br />2 ordered filed.
<br />
<br />I The offer of R. S. Shelley to quit claim the undivided one-half interest
<br />of Lot 4, Block 3,. Walnut Park Addition for $50.00, was approved by the Finance
<br />Committee and the council ordered that the necessary papers pe prepared and de-
<br />I 3 11 ver'ed.
<br />
<br />The $[250.00 cash offer of B. F. Fortney for the South 100 fee't of Lot, 10,
<br />Block 3, Whiteaker's Addition, was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-
<br />I 4 offer of $1800.00 extended and it was so ordered by the council. . .

<br />The $500.00 offer of W. K. Hamilton for Lot 7, Block 21, HUddleston's Amended
<br />Addition., was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $550.00 ex-
<br />;I 5 tended and it was so ordered by the council.

<br />On recommendation of the Finance Committee, the Council made the Eugene
<br />Reatty Board prices on the following lots: For the North half of Block 14, Driverton
<br />Addition on the South side of 19th street between.Mill and Ferry streets, Lot 10, (
<br />$550.00; Lots 11 and 12, $650.00 each; the West 50 feet of Lots 1 and 2, $550.00, )
<br />the West 60 feet of the east 110 of the same lots, $550.00; and the East 50 feet .
<br />of the same lots $575.00; Lot 3, $350.00. The south 1/2 of Block 7 on the North
<br />side of 19th street, between Mill and Ferry Streets, for Lot 4, $350.00, the West
<br />50 feet of Lots 5 and .6, $550.00, the West 60 feet of the East llO feet of Lots 5
<br />and 6, $525.00 and the East 50 feet of Lots 5 and 6, $550.00; Lot 7, $650.00, the
<br />South 100 feet of Lot 8, $625.00, the South 100 feet of Lot 9, $650.00, and the
<br />6 North 51 feet of Lot 8 and 9, $525.00~

<br />Councilman Farrington, Health Committee Chairman, requested that the City
<br />Recorder write a letter to Mrs. Cora Misfeldt, owner of the property on the North
<br />side of Skinner's Butte requesting that proper sanitation facilities be installed
<br />7 - Bnd it was so ordered.

<br />Mr. Farrington reported that Mr. Carl A. Field, manager of the New Service
<br />Laundry, had installed a set of baffle plates on the smoke stack, but that had not
<br />improved the condition much and he had agreed to increase the height of the stack in
<br />an effort to do away with the soot. Since the use of the baffle plates and sawdust,
<br />) 8 Mr. Lamb, reP9rted that the condition was much worse.

<br />Chief of Police Bergman .'II'as instructed to check on d rivers who drive throu h
<br />the city parks with only one head light and who speed beyond the limits indicated.
<br />I 9 Councilman Fage reported that this condition should be rectified as much as possible
<br />
<br />Petition requesting that the council rescind its action of October lOth in
<br />granting to Mrs. H. E. Slattery,. representing the G.A.R. the right tq remove the
<br />St. Mary's Episcopal parsonage, now located at 7th and Olive streets, to a site.
<br />6Bt x 55' on the South side of Eighth Between Lincoln and Lawrence streets, was
<br />presented. Upon motionmuly made and seconded, it was unanimously approved that
<br />the special permission granted at the meeting of October 10th be revoked and it was
<br />/10 so ordered.

<br />Application of Madge and F. M. Brown to operate a rooming house at 657 Wi1
<br />I 1amette Street, was approved by the Council upon the recommendat.ion of the Chief of"
<br />- 11 Police.

<br />Letter of Graham B. Smith requested that he be allowed to change the level
<br />of sidewalk to be placed in front of Lot 1, Block 1, Maplecroft Addition, along
<br />McMillan street so as to start at the established grade at the south end of the lot
<br />and in extending downhill to the north to gradually lower so as to come out two
<br />inches below the established levels at the new driveway line, was upon motion made
<br />I 12 and seconded, grant.ed by the council.

<br />I An ordinance. granting to Po stal Telegraph-Cable Company. its successors
<br />and assigns, a franchise to place, erect, lay, maintain and operate in, upon and
<br />under the streets, alleys, avenues and public highways of the City of Eugene, poles,
<br />wires and other appliances for the transmission of telegraph messages, was read the
<br />third time, and before votes were cast, a call for remonstrances or objections ~as
<br />made and there being none, the ordinance was placed for roll call; councilmen vctin
<br />aye; Lamb, Hendershott, Reid, Page, Farrington, Bond and Carlson; absent, Hanns; nay
<br />) 13 none. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8556.
