<br />r""z 8. 0 <br /> <br />.Jf <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />~ '~, ." <br /> <br />Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Conwittee reported that his <br />committee had received a number of complaints apout motorists speeding in the neigh- <br />borhood of 22nd and Agate Streets and reported that his committee was making a <br />study of the same. :' <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />}'3' <br /> <br />,;$..,,. <br /> <br />t\.? Peti tions, with the ir required number of 1100 signatures, calling for a <br />Cb special election to levy a tax for the proposed city swimming pool were presented <br />~ t9 the city' council together with a ~et~er from, the Eugene Youth Council highly <br />endorsing the project. Because of the legal ho~iday ruling of transacting no ~ <br />business, no action was taken upon the petitions except the placing of them on <br />l4v file for checking of the signatures by the county court. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington suggested to the 90uncil that the following descFib~d <br />property: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />owned <br /> <br />"Commencing at the intersection of the East line of Chambers <br />Street with the South line of Twelfph Avenue West ~nning thence <br />east along the south line of Twelfth Avenue West 900 feet; <br />thence South 334 feet to the North iine of Thirteenth Avenue <br />West, thence West along the North line of said Thirteenth <br />Avenue 900 feet to the east line of Chambers street; thence <br />north 334 feet to the place of begipning. <br /> <br />by the city ~ be set aside by resolution of the council'to be held intact <br />for future use as a playground and recreation area. After a short discussion by mocm ErEX~~ <br />15 members of the council the proposal was set aside for future action. <br /> <br />o Communication from the Board of Appeals, was presented, revealing the request <br />from Irish and Swartz ask~ng for a modification of the Building Code regarding the <br />amount of reinforcing in their concrete walls. The Board recommends that their <br />request be granted providing they place three-eights inch reinforcing rods perpend- <br />JVicularly three feet centers the full height of the wall. Motion was made and sec- <br />16 o;nded approving the r~commendat ion of the board,. <br /> <br />. <br />Another request was received from Irish~Swartz asking for a modification <br />of the code to permit them to use plywood on the exterior of their proposed service <br />station to be built on the northwest corner of the intersection of I~dison Street <br />and Sixth Avenue. The Board recorr~ends that th~ requ~st be granted providing the <br />specifications on this t~pe of construction to pe received, from Tacoma are satis- <br />f~ctory to the Board. Motion was mad~ apd secopded unanimously approving the <br />17 r~cownendation of the Bo~r~. - . <br /> <br />< A request was received from D: L. Freel: asking for a permit to complete <br />ap outside stairway at the rear of his house at. 2113 Kincaid Street that he might. <br />utilize the second floor as an apartment. The Board reco~aends that this <br />r~quest be granted providing he ,till enclose th~ stairway, and motion ~as made and <br />s~conded approving the recomrnendation of the co~ittee. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />IS.... <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />A request was received from Mrs. Grimes: Perin asking for a pe~it to <br />wfeck a garage on the r~ar of, her property at 2~5 Eleventh Avenue East and to <br />e~ect an apartment twenty by twenty-four feet, ~aiving the requirements of a. <br />stucco exterior as required in Fire Z9ne,No. 2., The building to conform in all <br />lother respects to the Code. The Board recommen~s that this request be granted and <br />upon motion made and seconded the recom~endatiop was unani~ously approved. <br /> <br />Cormnunication from County, Judge Clinton:Hurd ~egarding the house located <br />1297 West 6th Street against which the City pas a paving lien, was referred to <br />Finance Committee.
