A ganeral discussion followed and Mr. Prescott reporte~ that an ..CA,) approved airport site had been optioned by the committee for the sum of $42,000. RES 0 L UTI 0 N I WHEREAS, heretofore and on the 10th day of June, 1940, the Common ~ouncil by Resolution submitted to the electors of the City of Eugene for their approval or rejection a charter amendment authorizing the Council to make not to exceed a three mill levy for two years (1940 and 1941), and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the resolution it was indicated that it would be submitted at a special or general election to be held in the City of Eugene, and WHEREAS no special election has been called, the Recorder be and he is hereby directed to transmit the measure to the County Clerk to be placed upon the general national, state and county ballots, to be voted upon at the election of November 5, 1940. . It was unanimously approved and placed upon roll call, councilmen voting aye: Reid, Bond, Carlson, 3 arrington, Hanns, Koppe and Barette; nay: none; absent: Stewart. RESOLUTION I WHEREAS, heretofore by initiative petit~on of the electors of the City of Eugene, an amendment to the charter of the city of Eugene has been proposed to be submitted to the electors of the city for their approval or rejection, and VrnEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Eugene desire to themselves submit the amendment at the general election to be held in the city of Eugene November 5, 1940. The Recorder mf the City is directed to, at this time, place the same upon file and submit the same to the County Clerk of Lane County, Oregon, to be placed upon the general election ballot to be voted upon at the election of November 5, 1940, a copy of which charter amendment is hereto attached and made a part hereof. Ourb cut applications were presented from the following applicants and the recommendations of the City Engineer unanimously approved: No. 703 for Dr. M. V. Walker;V' city Engineer recommends the cut as shown on sket'ch; No. 781 Ifor Frank Seal Jr:""- (approved); No. 782 for W. L. Seward'" (approved) ; zi'o. 783 for R. M. Walker (' (a.pproved); No. 784 for John Fields (approved); No. 785 3 for F. C. Travis 1 approved) ; and No. 786 for B. L. Grieves- (approved). Mayor Large reported that Richard Shore Smith, President of the First I ~ational Bank was requesting two loading zones on the Broadway side of the ~Uilding for loading and unloading freight. After considerable discussion it was 33~eferred to the Police Committee to report back.. . Councilman Reid stated it was the request of the Sewer Committee that the city retain Mr. L.R. Stockman as consulting Engineer for the construction of the sewage disposal system in Eugene. It was thoroughly discussed by members of the council and the request was approved with the understanding that the contract be 34~approved by the City Attorney. I The meeting was herewith adjourned.
