I <br /> '",;...- In accordance with the call for fuel oil bids, the following companies <br /> c....., <br /> ",,'wro:.' submitted bids: Central Heating Company, Shell Oil Company and the Standard Oil <br /> 'F'~ <br /> c;:~~ Company of California. All bids were ordered placed on file after they were <br /> 24""' opened. . <br /> . <br /> The Mayor reported that it would be necessary to take some action regarding <br /> the parking meters as the companies would have to be notified thirty days in advance <br /> of December 31st. A recess of five minutes vvas had to allow the Police Coymnl ttee <br /> to make a report. The meeting was called to order and Councilman ~ond, Chairman I <br /> of the Police Committee, recommended that all the el ectric parking meters be taken <br /> out and be replaced with Dual meters which the Miller meters retained. Councilman <br /> Bond also stated there would be a few extr~ Dual Meters which would be returned <br /> to the company. A motion ViaS made by Councilman Reid, seconded by Councilman <br /> arrington that the electric rr~ters be removed and replaced by the Dual meters now <br /> on hand; the Dual and Miller meters be retained with the city returning the excess <br /> ual meters to the company for credit, and that the Recorder be notified to instruct <br /> Ithe parking meter companies of the council's action. The motion was unanimously <br /> 25 carried. <br /> City Attorney S. M. Calkins stated that' up to now the city had been <br /> particularly fortunate in settling sidewalk damage claims and he had not considered <br /> it necessary that the city carry insurance against this item but he wished to bring <br /> it to the council's attention that at some time they might suffer considerable loss <br /> on account of injury on defective sidewalks. He wished to make this statement so if he <br /> the council thought it ne:cessary the city could take out insurance for this <br /> 26 rurpos e. . <br /> Mayor Large stated he had received a complaint from Mrs. laVelle Ham <br /> iving next to Mid~ley Planing Millregardin~ ~moke nuisance. He refer~ed the matter <br /> 27 lO the Health COIDmlttee to contact Mr. Schmeldlng to see what could be done. <br /> Mr. W. Lyons of the NYA made a request for space on the ,third floor of the <br /> pity Hall to conduct a sewing class; he said they would need a space about 40x15 .1 <br /> ~eet and would partition it off with plTNood and put in a false ceiling at no cost <br /> ~o the city and when the project was abandoned the partition and ceiling would be <br /> Qeft intact. Councilman Stewart reported he had taken the matter up with the <br /> Fire Chief, W. E. Nusbaum:': and City Engineer Clubb and it would not interfere with <br /> '~he work of the Fire Department employees' in repairing toys for the Lyons Club Toy <br /> rive. A motion made by Councilman bond seconded by Councilman Reid that this <br /> permission be granted was carried. Mr. Clubb reported that it would be necessary <br /> for the city to use room 11 for parking meter repairs after January 1st. This room <br /> ~s now occupied by a WPA"prbject and Mr. Clubb was instructed to notify the lady in <br /> ~6harge that she could use space on the third floor if she could find someone that <br /> 28 lrould partition off the space she would need. <br /> ....
