<br />r""4 2 6 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />~,;;;, <br />(i;~ <br />A--<;\, <br />~';J <br />t....." <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />To the Members of the Common Council <br />of the City of Eugene: <br /> <br />NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that on this 17th day of January, 1941 the Mayor the <br />City of Eugene hereby calls a meeting to be held at 5:00 o'clock p.m. in the ~m <br />Council Chambers of the City of Eugene for the following reason: <br /> <br />For the purpose of paying tribute to Councilman A. A. Reid, deceased. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Eugene, Oregon <br />January 17, 1941 <br /> <br />Elisha Large, Mayor <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br /> <br />Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon <br />January 17, 1941 <br /> <br />The council met in special meeting pursuant to the call of Mayor Large. <br />All councilmen were prese~t with the exception of I. O. Stewart, and Orren <br />Brownson. The meeting was herewith called to order. <br /> <br />Mayor Large stated that those who had worked with Mr. Reid the past <br />14 years knew him as a sincere and conscientious worker and were very much <br />grieved over his death. The following resolution was presentedrand upon motion <br />made and seconded, unanimously approved: <br /> <br />RE SOL UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Eugene has received the sad news <br />that one of its most active and useful citizens, an officer of <br />the city, who has participated in the formulation of its <br />policies over a period of years, and to whom the city is <br />indebted for invaluable advice and service, has, through the <br />intervention of all all-wise Providence, ceased his labors, and <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the members of the Common Council, aside from <br />their intimate and personal grief arising from their close <br />association, must needs speak for the entire citizenry, upon <br />whom th~ loss falls most heavily, <br /> <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by all of the people of the <br />City of Eugene, acting through their official body, the Common <br />Council, that there beextended to his family this acknowledgment for <br />gratuitous and cheerful performance of off times disagreeable, and <br />always difficult tasks, for faithful friendships and for <br />outstanding Citizenship. <br /> <br />WE assure you of our appreciation of your and our great <br />loss, and we, like yourselves will hold him in memory as a <br />benefactor of the City of Eugene. <br /> <br />The City Recorder was then instructed to send a copy of the resolution <br />to Mr. Reid's family, and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />It was agreed by the Council members that they would meet at <br />the City Hall on Monday at 1:30 p.m. and attend Mr. Reid's funeral as a group. <br /> <br />Upon motion, the council adjourned. <br /> <br />C.
