He said the possible boundaries for the new site would
be between High and Hilyard and 19th and 24th. Mayor Large then appointed the Finan e
Committee to take this matter up with a committee from the school board and see what
decision could be reached. Councilman Brownson again stated that he thought each
councilman should familarize himself with the area and with the report that Mr.
21~Clubb had worked out for this tract.

Councilman Stewart, Chairman of the l!'ire and Water Committee reported that
the Water Board was laying an eight inch main on Lawrence Street and it had been
necessary to use a couple of the new hydrants. 11e also reported that some time in
April the Water Board would be laying a main on 8th Street from Pearl Street to the
West City limits. Fire Chief Nusbaum had recommended that they put in new hydrants
on,both Pearl and Oak Streets and stated that the old hydrants taken out at those
two places could probably be usedsat some other place. Councilman Stewart reported
this had about exhausted the supply of new hydrants and the city should order more
of the Corey h~drants now being used. Councilman Brownson moved that six new Corey
hydrants and valves be purchased. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hawn and
22 it was so ordered.

I

Councilman Stewart brought up the question of fire protection for industrial
plants outside the city limits not associated with the rural fire districts and
recommended the following change in his recommendation of January 13th (Par. 13):
~uote - "If the assessed valuation is such that two and one-half mills will produce
$100 or more, then the contract is to be on the assessed valuation basis. If
the assessed valuation is such that two and one-half mills will not produce $100,
then the contract shall be on the dollar basis. These basic charges guarantee the
contractor the following services: one call by the Eugene Fire Department any time
during any part of the calendar year~ For any 'and all runs durigg that calendar

~

.1
