The <br />makers of the motion did not see fit to comply with this request. ~uestion was <br />called for and all councilmen voted aye with the exception of Councilman Brownson <br />3~ who voted nay. The motion was declared carried. <br />. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Civil Service Commission stating that <br />Probationer PaulE. Snell, Patrolman, had successfully passed the probationary and <br />physical fitness requirements and it was the Commission's recommedation that he be <br />permanently appointed as a member of the Police Department. Upon this recommenda- <br />tion, the Mayor then appointed Paul Snell as a permanent member of the Police <br />B~ Department, and the appointment was approved by the Council. <br /> <br />Application for a Second Hand Dealers license was presented from Hazelton's <br />Second Store at 762 Park Street. As the application had been approved by the Chief <br />of Police, motion was made and seconded to grant the applicant a license and it was <br />so ordered. <br /> <br />3~ <br /> <br />.. <br />Curb cut applications were presented from the following: O. J. Lee, No. 841; <br />Scott Hastings-, No. 842; E. H. Christensen, No. 844; and Harry Leaton,' No. 814:5. <br />The City Engineer recommended that all the cuts be granted and the recommendation <br />was unanimoumly approved. Curb cut applications were also presented from: Robert F. <br />Reed{. No. 843; N. T. Crawford~ No. 839, and General Grocery Company, No. 835. <br />The City Engineer recoffinlended that the cuts be granted--to be marked off by the Eng- <br />ineering Department. Motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the recomme da- <br />33-- tion of the Engineer. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Upon motion made and seconded the Mayor and Recorder were authorized to <br />execute the contract between the City of Eugene and Fred Fisk providing for a <br />seven foot set-back from the property line at the new building being oonstructed <br />34c by Fred Fisk on East 11th Street, betweenWillamette and Oak Streets. <br /> <br />, The -City Engineer reported that Mr. A. A. Reeves had completed the installa <br />tion of the doors in the Fire Department as per the bid, and he therefore recommende <br />that the city pay Mr. Reeves for the work done. The ayes and nays were called, <br />councilmen voting aye: Bond, Farrington, Koppe, Barette, Stewart, Brownson, Hawn <br />and Pennington; nay: none. The recommendation was declared approved and the City <br />Recorder instructed to issue a revolving fund check to Mr. Reeves, as follows: <br />$780 for the contract price, and an additional $9.41 for welding, etc., above the <br />35( contract, making a total of $789.41. <br /> <br />An ordinance prohibiting theCkeeping and maintenance of animals, fowls, <br />and insects in the City of Eugene was presented to the council. Councilman Farring- <br />ton made a motion, seconded by Councilman Bond, that the proposed ordinance be table <br />36' indefinitely and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />Councilman Barette reported that the Eirestone Auto Supply and Service <br />Stor'e was remodeling the building at 11th and Pearl and the railing or barricade <br />between the business property and the sidewalk to prevent the cars using the side <br />37~ walk should now be installed. The City Engineer stated that this would be done. <br /> <br />It was reported that a barn located on Elk Avenue should be removed. The <br />City Attorney and the Chief of Police are to see if this can be removed without <br />3& the city taking any further action. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Upon motion the council adjourned. <br /> <br />C.
