F. Bergman, to Councilman Bond, <br />Chairman of the Police Comrni ttee, that Joseph Cullender had been found guilty of <br />discourtesy~totthe public and that he be suspended for 10 days without pay was <br />read. Also a letter to Mayor Elisha Large signed by Sam Bond of the Police <br />Committee endorsing this recommendation was read. The letter from Mayor Elisha <br />Large ordering suspension of Cullender for 10 days without pay was read. Upon <br />motion made and seconded this action was confirmed by the Council. Bond <br />Chairman, Police Cownittee <br />Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />As Chief of Police of the City of Eugene I hereby prefer charges against <br />Joseph Cullender under the provisions of Ordinance Nol 8469 as adopted by Ordinance <br />No. 8475 pursuant to an initiative petition adopted by the electors of the City <br />of Eugene, as follows: <br /> <br />That the said Joseph Cullender has been guilty of discourtesy to the <br />public, in this: That on the 26th day of March , 1941 that said Joseph Cullender <br />was guilty of discourteous treatment of the public in the following particulars; <br />that he undertooK to and did stop a motorcycle on the bridge on E~st Broadway, <br />and thereupon entered into an altercation with and offered to fight the rider <br />of the motorcycle, whereas his strict duty was to either reprimand the manr'1,and <br />let him go or arrest him. <br /> <br />I therefore recommend to the Police Committee of the City of Eugene that <br />said Joseph Cullender be suspended for a period of ten days, without pay. Bergman, 'to Councilman <br />Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, that Roy Wilcox had been found guilty <br />of inefficiency and inattention to and deT~Dction of duty, in the following <br />particulars; that he has engaged in a regular occupation for profit, in addition <br />to his duties in the service, in that he~s actually been operating what is known <br />as the "Wilcox Cabinet Shoptl immediately adjacent to Eugene, for approximately <br />six months, was read. It was recommended that he be suspended for 30 days without <br />pay and demoted to a patrolman. Also a letter to Mayor Elisha Large signed by <br />Sam Bond of the Police Committee endorsing this recommendation was read.
