Mayor Large stated this wa's somethin <br /> '-' . <br /> t,hat should be looked after at an early date and said he would like to refer it to <br /> a special committee for consideration. A motion was made, seconded and carried- <br /> that this be done. Mayor Large appointed Councilman Farrington of the Finance <br /> Committee, Koppe of the Judiciary Committee, and Barette of the Street Committee <br /> and asked that they give this an early consideration and let him know just as soon <br /> as the report was ready so that he could call a special meeting of the counCil to I <br /> 32 consider the matter. <br /> Councilman Hawn brought up the question of the stop lights at Willamette <br /> Street and stated that in the evening When the traffic was heavy, the way they <br /> were timed now seemed to hinder the traffic rather than help it. Mr. Hawn and some <br /> of the other councilmen seemed to think it was the left hand turns that were causi <br /> the trouble, expecially the left hand turn on Broadway. Mr. Bond pointed out <br /> it was the recommendation of 'the State highway Commission that the lights be timed <br /> as they were but he stated he-would take the matter up with them and see what could <br /> 33 be done. <br /> Councilman Farrington reported the dangerous conditiop. for school ch'ildren <br /> at the intersection of Franklin Blvd., 13th Avenue and Villard'Street. He said <br /> he considered this a much worse situation than the one at Broadway and H~gh which <br /> had previouslY heen reported on. Couhcilman Barette stated that he and Mr. Clubb <br /> had watched this situation for about one-half an hour one day and the coddition <br /> there was very bad on acc0unt of the excessive speed on Franklin Blvd. Councilman <br /> Stewart said he was very much in favor of signs being painted to warn motorists of <br /> this crossing, and Councilman Bond said he thought the City was very short of signs <br /> of this kind. After some discussion Councilman Bond said he would have some signs <br /> painted to post along the side of the highway warning of the school crossing-and <br /> that as soon as he could get these done, he would have cross walks painted on ' <br /> Franklin Blvd. The I~tter of speed on Franklin Blvd.-and 6th Streets was referred <br /> to and a moti9n was made by Hawn and seconded by Koppe and carried to the effect I <br /> that the pOlice department should slow the speed on all streets in Eugene down to <br /> 34 thir~y miles per hour. <br /> There bsihg-no further business, <br /> I <br /> I <br /> ~ <br />
