Ed Rouglass aSking for a permit to convert <br />the' old house at 1236 13th Avenue into a duplex residence. The Board recommends <br />'I that this be held up for the submission of plans and on motion made and seconded ~~ <br />26 this recommendation was adopted by the council. ':J. <br /> <br />A request was received from W. K. Fogelstrom asking for a permit to convert J~ <br />their two story house at 1050 5th Avenue West into two apartments. The Hoard f:,,) <br />recOlTIxnends tha t this be held up for the submission of plans and on motion made and ':'~:: <br />27 seconded this recommendation was adopted by the council. <br /> <br />; A request was received from Pearl M.lffieam aSking for a perm~t to remodel <br />I her house at 322 '16th Avenue, East into an apartment house. rl'he Board recommends <br />: that this request be held up for the submission of plans and on motion made and <br />28 seconded this recommendation was adopted by the council. <br /> <br />Mrs. Bondurante came into the council rooms and hJayor Larg€ asked her to <br />address the council. ~he stated that she was appearing in behalf of the Lodise <br />Horne in ~ortland, and they needed funds to remodel their buildings. They were old <br />buildings and were a fire menace. She explain~d that they were carrying on a <br />campaign to remodel and if these funds Rould not be secured, they VJould have to <br />abandon the work. ~he stated that several c6unties had included money in their <br />budget 'for this work. Mayor Large exwlained to her that the budget had already <br />been adopted and at this time could not be changed. She inquired if the ~ity did <br />not have an Emergency Fund and on referring the matter to the City Attorney, he <br />stated he believed money could not be legally taken out of the Emergency Fund for <br />tilis cause. Mrs. Bondurante referred t:J the nwnber of girlis that had been sent <br />to the institution and said that th~ i16.00 per month received from the stat~ did <br />not cover the expenses of the [11'1 for month which amounted to $24.00. Counc~lman <br />:F'arrington stated th(,~ t no doubt this was a good cause and he would like very much <br />to be able to allow something for this work, but under the conditions would have to <br />! 29 move that the request be denied. This motion was seconded by Hawn and carried. <br /> <br />A letter from the Huilding Inspector regarding the plans for a service statio <br />at the Southwest corner of 7th and Washington Street which had been presented by <br />R.F. Harrell was read. There was some discussion regarding this location for a <br />service station and it was pointed out that it had been previously bef!tlre the counci <br />'I After some cliscussion a motion was made and seconded that this matter be referred <br />30 to the l')lanning ~omrniss ion to hold a hearing. Motion was carried. <br /> <br />Curb cuts nlli11bers 914 at 2193 Willamette; 915 at 1243 West 7th; 916 at 293 <br />West 5th; and 917 at 1977 Willamette; were granted by the council es recommended. <br />1 ~l by Engineer ~lubb. <br /> <br />A paving cut for Jim Brannen 'I'ire Shop at 966 Oak Str.eet had been before the <br />counCil on May 26th with the reco~~endation to hold it up and on July 14th it was <br />requested that it not be granted, but the recommend,::t tion of the Engineeel' at this <br />time W8S that the cut should be allowed for ten feet where previously they had <br />, . asked for sixteen feet. Councilman Barette stated that he wished to make a minority <br />report that the cut be not allowed. ~t was pointed out that the Tire Company had <br />, already had one paving cut for their business but that.'this cut was on a separate <br />\ piece of' property adjod:.ning and by allowing a ten foot cut, it would make a space <br />IWhere six cars could be acco. mmoda, ted and tha t the grant, ing of a ten foot cut:.wouldJ:} <br />only remove the p~rking space of one car. Uouncilman Farrington said he wished to <br />make a majority report that the ten foot cut be granted and made a motion to that <br />!effect. The motion was seconded by Hrownson and on roll call, motion was carried. <br />. Those voting aye were Bond, Koppe, Hawn, Brownson, Farrington and Pennington. No~ <br />32 ~arette. Stewart absent. . . <br /> <br />A resolution was read regarding certain assessments on Lots 6 and 7, Block 2, <br />Travis Addition. These assessments had been made on August 1, 1925, and endorsements <br />. on the Lien Register.were thet the assessments had been paid in full but a computatio <br />1 failed to prove this fact and it now appears under the advise of the City Attorney <br />that the lien of approximately ;;p32.40is uncollectable and that the Lien Department <br />be and they are hereby directed to endorse "Paid in Fulltt upon the lien record and <br />clear Lot 7, Block 2 of this assessment and to cancel the same. On motion made and <br />33 seco':lded this resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under improvement ordinance of December 8, 1924 <br />1 ' followed by assessment ordinance of August 1, 1925 certain <br />assessments were made against Lots 6 and 7 of Block 2 of Travis <br />Addi tion, 'L'ha t endorsements on the lien register show that <br />the assessment has. been paid in full and a computation fails <br />to bear ~h~t out, and whereas, it now appears under the advice <br />of the City Attorney that the lien of apprOXimately $32.40 is <br />uncollectible because of' the state of the recIDrd. <br /> <br />Therefore, ~E IT RESOLVED, That the Lien Department <br />be and they are hereby directed to endorse ttpaid in Full" <br />upon the lien record and to clear Lot 7, Block 2, of this <br />assessment and to cancel the same. <br /> <br />I ~ <br />
