On . <br /> motion by Bond and seconded by brownsonj the Mayor and Recorder were instructed <br /> 22 to sign the contract for this work. <br /> The R~corder read a letter from the American LaFrance Foamite Corporation <br /> inElmira, ~ew York, in which they stated that they were unable to say defineti~ <br /> when the ladders for the new fire truck could be Shipped. They stated in the <br /> letter they were 'subst~ tuting steel rungs in place of the aluminum rungs the <br /> ,contract provided for. Councilman Stewart stated he had talked with the Fire - <br /> Department and their object in ordering the aluminum rungs was to get something <br /> that would be strong end serviceable and yet light. He said he wished to Object <br /> to the company substituting the steel rungs. A motion was made by Stewart and <br /> seconded by Bond instructing the Recorder to notify the American LaFrance <br /> Foamite Corporation that the City objected to the substitution of the steel rungs <br /> and that they would require the American LaFrance Foamite Corporation to fill <br /> ~he contract as originally ordered and furnish all aliminum rungs. Motion was I <br /> 23 carred. <br /> Councilman Bond reported that the Westside Auto Wreckers had been cleaning <br /> up Van Buren Street but had been delayed on account of the heavy rains but that <br /> 24 the work was progressing satisfactorily. <br /> The Recorder was instructed to confer with the Finance Committee with a view <br /> of aSking for bids for the City's requirements of tires and paints for the next <br /> 25 year. I <br /> The .ti corder reported that there was still $38.50 unpaid in tobacco licenses <br /> and milk and meat licenses of various kinds. It was ordered that the City Attor.n.e, <br /> 26 make complaints and warrants to be served for the arrest of the ones not paid., ' - . <br /> - <br /> At this time, Mayor Large sta ted he wiShed to appoint Mrs,. Ev:a-M. Gallup . <br /> as f.olice l~tron to start as of December 1, 1941. Motion by bond and seconded <br /> 27 by l!arrington to comfirm this appointment was carried. ' <br /> Mayor Large stated he understood that there was a delmnd for more meters 'at <br /> the Hart Larsen's store and also at Rubenstein's.
