584 Council Chamber$, Eugene, Oregon January 12, 1942 The minutes of the regular council meeting held January 12, 1942 at 7:30 P. M. in the Council Chambers. All councilmen were present. ~~ ~ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the meeting herewith called to order by Mayor Large. I ....... '..;';,. ,,1. '. '<4 3 D. R. French addressed the council and stated the Humane Society was oper- ating at this time and that George E. Austin had been designated as dog catcher and requested that he be given police authority. Amotion was made and seconded by Stewart that Mr. George E. Austin be deputized as a special officer for the work in assisting in the enforcement of the dog law. Mayor Large stated that he would make the appointments for the year. He stated that all council committees were working very satisfactorily and that he would re-appoint all the committees as they had been for the year 1941. The Planning Commission already had one vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Victo P. Morris and ~e appointed Merrill Kendall I in his place. The term of Edith Chamber had expired and she did not wish to be re-appointed and he appointed Basil Williams I in her place and re-appointed T. I. Ch?pmari'as his term was expiring at this time. He appointed Dr. C. R. Lindgren'on the Health Board in place of Dr. N. Paul E. Anderson. On the Library Board, E. J. Turnbullls term was expiring and he re- appointed Mr. Turnbull. In the Playground Comm$ssion the term of A. L. Hawn was expiring and he re-app&inted Mr. Hawn. The Boxing Commission would all be re- appointed except he had appointed Dr. Harry Talbot- in the place of Dr. Hurley. The term of William Bartle on the Civil Service Commission was expiring and he would appoint Arthur Hendershott in'his place.
