<br />:1 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on this 29th day of June, 1942, the Mayor of Eugene
<br />, hereby calls a meeting to be held at 7:30 o'clock P.M. in the Council Chambers of
<br />the City of Eugene for the following purposes:

<br />For the purpose of passing an ordinance prohibiting the sale of firecrackers to
<br />conform with War regulations. Also to pass an ordinance regarding the disposal
<br />of garbage, which is an amendment to our ordinance no. 8265. Also authorizing
<br />the Mayor and Recorder to enter into a contract with the Bethel Fire District.

<br />:i firecrackers did not quite meet the requirements of the Army regarding the sale
<br />:i of firecrackers for the duration of the war, and that it had seemed wise to
<br />':1 pass a new ordinance that dj.d conform to these '~egula:tions. An ordinance covering
<br />(, the sale or-'fireworks was read the first time and passed to its second and third
<br />1 ,I readings by unanimous consent of the Council by. title under suspension of the

<br />, Mayer Large" brought.,:up::the question of the, City taking out incendiary bomb ' .
<br />insurance (,}ommenc1:ng the first"ot July. Councilman Hawn explained that he had'
<br />taken out this insurance on hfsiown property, but that the chances .are remote
<br />that it would be necessary: to carry it. HoweVi~r; he believed it would be wise
<br />to take. out insurance of' this .kind. Councilman Bond stated tha t we would probably.
<br />2 ,be asked to payout a good manyj~lOO items in t.lle "next year that wOU1.d be more'
<br />I important than this, but in order for the Council to avoid criticism, :he' thought
<br />: it would be wise for the Council to do something along this line. A motion was

<br />I made by Brownson and seconded by Hawn that ,the.Ci ty take out this bomb insurance,
<br />I placing $40,000 on th.e City 'Hall building, $25,000 on-the fire equipment in. the
<br />City. Hall and $10,000 for o.ther equipment contained ih the City Hall. Also, to
<br />take' out $10,000 on the Str€let,'Departmen t building, located at 108 W ~ 5th Avenue,
<br />and $15,009 on thetJvarious eciu:tpme~t, tools, and app~ratus that maybe contained
<br />in the 'b\lilding~ The cost,~ of this insurance is to be taken out of the Emergency
<br />: fund for the first six m,onths of 1942. ., .' . ", .

<br />The 'Health Committee, having met with the various garbage hauiers, have had
<br />the City Attorney prepare an' amendment to Section 4 of our garbage ordinance
<br />I no. 8265, and the Health Committee requested that this ordinance be passed at this
<br />I time. The ordinance was read the first time and passed to its second and third
<br />, readings by unanimous consent of the Council by title under suspension of the rules
