<br />The minutes of the regular meeting of t~e Common Counciili, held Monday evening
<br />at 7:30 P.M. All members of the Council were present with the exception of Council-
<br />man Pennington.
<br />
<br />Mr. C. B. Johnson addressed the Council concerning the sawdust at the old wood
<br />yard on the north side of Second Avenue;, between Adams and Jackson. City Engineer
<br />Clubb stated that the City had cle8nedup the'gutters' at different times but that
<br />1 the sawdust always was pushed back into the giltters and that the accumulation of
<br />the sawdustinust be two or three feet dElp, and had been afire once or twice, the
<br />smoke from which was very annoying. After some discussion the matter was referred
<br />to the Polioe Committee to investigate who was at fault.

<br />Judge Hurd was present and addressed the Council concerning the curfew.situat:bn,
<br />He read a typewritten confession from Lee Earn Chapman, and Junior Wise, dated
<br />May 22nd. These two boys Mr. Hur~ stat~d, wereonly:10 and 11 years old. Probably
<br />the worst trouble they had been into was when they entered a.warehouse and slit
<br />about 400 sacks. filled with different kinds of veatch seed and Judge Hurd was
<br />aSking that the City pass a new curfew ordinance ,'which could be used in an attempt,
<br />2 to solve a part of the juvenile situation. Councilm8noHawn stated there was no
<br />, doubt but what there was an increaSing amount of., juvenile delinquency, and that he
<br />t was very much in favor of giving the extra ,amount toward. the juvenile fund which
<br />: had been requested. He said he felt the City would.profit by making this extra
<br />contribution in order to help out .Mr. Dietzts.work.. 'He said the Poiliice Department
<br />, was short on men and suggested that some changes might be made in the force working
<br />; from four until midnight in order to help out with this work. After some discussion
<br />t the matter was referred to the Police Committee.' '

<br />the understanding that Mr. Nelson is to accept the title as is and no insured title

<br />An offer submitted by Otto O. Olson of $200.00 cash for ,the east 85 feet of
<br />7 Lots, Block 30, Gross Addition was rejected by the Council and a counter offer of
<br />:$250. 00 made.

<br />The offer of F. C. Walters, $275.00 cash for Lot, 6, Block 4, Crone~'s
<br />8 Addition and memes and bounds tract adjacent on the west was accepted by the Council.

<br />Councilman Barette stated the Street Department had been working on the roads
<br />in Hendricks Pakk and Mr. Barette also referred to the fact that the curb at the
<br />9 iDrive-In Market had not been replaced. Mr. Clubb, City Engineer, stated that Mr.
<br />'Jorgenson had talked to him and stated he had not been able so far to get to. this
<br />: work but had it on his list.

<br />! Councilman Stewart asked that the Fire Department be allowed to purchase a fog
<br />10'nozzle at $40.00, salvage covers to cost about $42.95, and two bucket force pumps
<br />with hose to cost $44.95. He stated the funds were in the Fire Department budget,
<br />· and on motion made, seconded, and carried, this request was granted.
<br />
<br />The Health Department had no report.
<br />
<br />Councilman Barette stated he had been talking to Fred Lamb, and Mr. Lamb re-
<br />11 ported that there would have to be some improvements made to the toilets in
<br />Hendricks Park.

<br />Councilman Hawn, reporting for the Police Committee, stated he had a request
<br />from Della M. Heide, superintendent of the new nursery school at 11th and Pearl
<br />Streets. He stated this'was a brach of the Eugene School system, and that it was
<br />supported by government funds; that this location was just outside of the limited
<br />
<br />parking distance and that there were some thirty cars visited the school each da~
<br />
