<br /> Councilman Hawn at this time stated the members of the Active Club and
<br /> the JuniDID Chamber of Commerce had discussed with him the matter of the Juvenile II
<br /> ~ situation and it was their recommendation that some adjustment should be made
<br /> ~ in the Juvenile Ordinance. That the curfew hould should be changed from nine .~

<br /> .~ to ten oclock, and the age should be change tp ~~i]~re~ under 16. For the
<br /> ~ first violation, the chold s~l1. 'be.taRenLho.me;:-by.'.tlie'~Police Officer, and
<br /> for the second vioaation, the child shall be held at the Police office and
<br /> -the parent notified to come and get the child, for the thirfr offense, the
<br /> 3 parent or guardian to be fined ten dollars. The following two members of the
<br /> Active Club were present, Mervin Vater and Boa Broderick, and from the Junior
<br /> Chamber of Commerce, Edward V. Duke. These member eocp~ained that they were
<br /> .ver much interested in the' Juvenile situation and would like very much t,o see
<br /> some improvement. They stated that last winter they held athletic programs
<br /> at the University High School and the St. Mary's High School, in the evening
<br /> and that this year they wanted to enlarge it .to two high schools on the east
<br /> side and two high schools on the west side, and that the nine o'clock curfew
<br /> did not give Imng enough time for the programs. They stated that both the
<br /> Active Club and the Junior Chamber of; Commerce had offered their services
<br /> to the City Police either in the prowl cars or to patrol the streets. After
<br /> some discussion the matter was referred to the Judiciary Committee and the
<br /> City attorney to bring in an ordinance at the next Council meeting regarding
<br /> the Juvenile situation. Mayor Large stated that he was sure both the Council
<br /> and the Police appreciated the offer of the two clubs to help and he wished
<br /> I to thank them for offering their services.

<br /> J. F. Grimes addressed the Coun~il regarding the location of a garage
<br /> on his property at 212 east 14th which was denied by the Boare of Appeals at
<br /> 4 the previous meeting. He said that he could make some change and would like
<br /> to have the matter reconsidered. Mayor Large asked that he make his new
<br /> proposition to the Board of Appeals and that they report back at the next
<br /> Council meeting.
