D. Hodson, 231 Lawrence Street for sewer reDairs <br />in the amount of ~13.50 was referred to the Sewer Committee to report back <br />at the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />A letter from C. E. McLean, Manager of ' the Eugene Hotel accepting the <br />franchise granted 'the Hotel by ordinance No. 8785 was read at this time. A <br />question regarding the erection of. the steel pole for the support of the sign <br />granted in the franchise was brought up and the Fire and 'Water Committee was <br />instructed to inspect the pole and report back at the' next Council meeting. <br /> <br />A request from the American Red Cross to erect a '3 by 6 foot sign, <br />not illwninated" in from~ of 43 west 8th street was read. l}ftersome dis- <br />cussion a motion was made by Barette and seco.nded by Crumbaker that this <br />permission be granted, and Councilman Hawn suggested that this should be <br />on apprqval of the Street CorJLl'llittee. Councilman Barette,.and Grumbaker agreed <br />to the admendment that it be with t~e Street Cornmittees approval and on ~ote <br />the motion'was carried. <br /> <br />A letter from the Planning Commission recommending an ordinance <br />requiring warehouses and other commercial establishments to provide for <br />loading and unloading zones off from the street on all new construction and <br />re-construction was read. . After some discussion this matter was referred <br />to the Street Committee to confer with the City Attorney and bring in an <br />Ordinance. . <br /> <br />A letter from the United Air Lines, stating that the Corporate name <br />of the company had been changed from United Air Lines Transport Corp. to <br />United Air Lines, Inc, beginning December 23, 1943 was read and ordered. <br />placed on file. <br /> <br />A request from the University of Oregon, asking that M., M. A motion was made by Councilman Farrington and seconded by Davis that <br />the rules be suspended and the ordinance was placed on its third reading was <br />unanimously carried. The ordinance was read by title the third tiwe, and <br />on roll call all Councilmen present voting Aye. Councilmen absent none. T:q.e <br />Ordinance ~as decl~red passed and numbered 8787. . <br /> <br />The matter regarding the steel pole to be erected at the intersection <br />of Broadway and Pearl street, referred to the Fire and Water Corrmittee earlier <br />in the e~ening was discussed again and a motion was made by Hawn and Eeconded <br />by Farrington that the Fire and Water Committee be given power to act on this <br />matter.
