That he and 2 other ex-army I <br /> '<, ,~,' i men who had Medical Discharges had been planning on getting into business and <br /> ~;~~, that they wished to open a "Cocktail Louhge". He stated there would be no <br /> J' I <br /> /(' , dancing and no floor shows; that they were asking for a Service License and <br /> 4: that they could get the backing ,of Tony Ramig, local representative of the <br /> j Liquor Control Commissimh, if the Council was agreeable. Mr. Geiger stated <br /> , that it had been considered Eugene was not a drinking town but that he had <br /> made an investigation and that 90% of all those over 21 years of age in Eugene <br /> were holding Liquor Permits. Councilman Farrington stated that he did not <br /> think this was the time and the place to enter into a discussion of this <br /> matter. That If Mr. Geiger wqnted a permit of this kind that it should come <br /> in writing in the regular form ~nd be presented to the Council.. Councilman <br /> Hawn stated he had talked to Mr. ",Geiger and for himself he had no objection <br /> but that the Council should realize that if this request was granted there <br /> would be other requests before the Council. Councilman Crllinbaker stated <br /> that he thought the application should come Before the Council in the usual <br /> florm before the action was taken. But that they were to vote on whether <br /> Service Licneses should be allowed he was ready to vote NO and Councilman <br /> Farrington sta~ed they were also ready to vote NO. Mr.. Geiger was told if <br /> he wanted a Service License he would have to present a written application <br /> before the Council. <br /> Colonel Tierney was present and stated that the Rent Control Ordinance <br /> provided for an Executive Secretary but that the salary was to be set by the <br /> Council. He stated that the Committee was ,in needof a secretary and was <br /> asking the Council to set the salary to be paid. He stated that the labor <br /> would be light but that it would be necessary for the girl to be at the office <br /> all day and that the Committee thought the salary should be about the same as <br /> 5 the girl in the Recorders office. It was stated that the Council would be <br /> wiiling to, leave the matter of the salary up to the judgement of the Rent, <br /> Control Committee but colonel Tierney insisted that the Council should name <br /> the salary. A motion was made by Hawn and seconded by Crumbaker that the <br /> Committee secure a Secretary-ay a maximum salary of $140.00 per month.
