J. Haskell, 1040 High street was pre-
,~~I sented. This permit had been okay'd by the Chief of Police; the Chief of I
the Fire Department and the Lane County Health Department. A motion was
".~ I made, seconded and carried that a license for this place be issued.
'::~'i4 The new lease for the Cantonment site of the Airport to F. H. Stickley
C?
, was read at this time. TRis provided fora cash rental of $600.00 for the
t;,'j)
25 ] 0 period beginning September 1st, 1944 and ending August 31st, 1945. A motion
was made by Hawn and seconded by Davis that the Mayor and Recorder be instr-
ucted to sign this lease on behalf of the City. On vote this motion was
carried.
Mayor'Large had received from the Civil Aeronautics Administration
permission to rent for crop purposes the unused part of the Airport proper.
26 A proposal for rental had been received from A. W. Schneider and a contract
between the City and Mr. A. W. Schneider had been prepared by the City Att-
orney. The contract was read at this time. The contract provided for one
third of-the crop for the Cities part, this to be delivered to the nearest
warehouse. A motion was made by Hawn and seconded by Koppe that the Mayor
and Recorder be instructed to sign this contract on behalf of the City. On
vote the, motion was carried.
In April 1942 the City entered into a contract with the United Air
Lines regarding the use of the Airport. After the signing of the contract
the location of the Administration building was changed so that the
description of the property occupied by the United Air Lines as described
in the contract does not correspond with the actual location of the Adm~n-
istration Building. The United Air Lines had prepared an amendment to the
27 contract which was read at this time. Mr. Clubb, the City Engineer reported
that the iocation as described in this amendment was not entirely correct.
It was also pointed out that the ground as occupied by the United Air Lines
is larger than the tract as described in the original contract, wfuich had
been agreed on at the rental of $600.00 per year and it was the recommend~
ation of the Council that the additional rental of ~~ per square foot should
be added. A motion was made by Crumbaker and seconded by Farrington that a
correct sketch of the exact location of the property occupied by the United, I
Air Lines be prepared by the City Engineer and that the proposed amendment
be returned to the United Air Lines for correction and a request for addi-
tional rent to correspond with increased amount of ground occupied.
i
The City had received some offers on property bordering on the Amazon.
The Recorder reported that the following phrase had been .inserted in a deed
28 for a lot purchased by the Obsidians Incorporated, "THE RIGHT IS HEREBY
RESERVED TO WIDEN THE AMAZON DITCH IN ITS PRESENT COURSE~, and asked if this
same wording should be used in other deeds where the property was bordering
I on the Amazon. There was a question raised as to whether this was sufficient
, to protect the City in the proposed improvement of the Amazon and the matter
I
.1
was referred to tile City Attorney to make an investigation and if in his
opinion the City was not sufficiently protected that he should start a suit
to correct the deed.
The Recorder reported that Councilman Barette on August 29th had
29 turned in a check from 'William F. Goddard for the sale of two "Dressing
Rooms" on the bank of the Willamette back of the Butte.
The question of whether affirmative arguments should be insetted in
i the voters pamphlets f~r the fall election was brought up. A motion was made
I by Stewart and seconded by Farrington that an argument not to exceed one page
I
30; for each ~f the two measures to be voted on; the Swimming Pool proposal for
1 additional funds and the voting of funds for Park Purposes. That the Park
I
Committee and the City Attorney were to prepare these arguments. On votet
I this mtoion was carried.
I
I
I The Recorder reported that C. A. Horton had filed his completed audit
I for the fisval year ending June 30, 1944 earlier in the day. This was referre
311 to the Finance Committee for consideration and to report back at the next
I oCouncil meeting as to its acceptance.
,
I
"
.Mayor Large reported that the Service Mens shelter in the parking on I
the north side of 6th street between Olive and Charnel ton had been wrecked and
32 needed either repairing or hauling away. The matter was referred to'Council-
man Barette ~o contact the organization that had furnished the building.
Glenn Hasselrooth, reporter for the guard, stated he was leaving for
33 Columbia Uni~versity and that he ~ould be succeeded by Roch Bradshaw to cover
City Hall Proceedings. 0
On motion the Council Adjourned.
-'
~ tem
