Councilman Farrington reported that the Finance Committee had looked <br />Ii a t the tract af land between 23rd and 25tp, and Alder and Uni versi ty where 24th <br />!I should be located and stated it was the recommendation of the Finance Committee <br />i: that the City should dedicate the property owned by' the City for street purposes <br />13 I: for 24th from~der to University. Attorney Calkins stated that all that would <br />i~ be necessary would be for the Council to authorize the Mayor and Recorder to <br />[; sign a deed dedicating this tract for .street purposed. A motion was made by <br />j Farrington and seconded by Crumbaker that the Mayor and Recorder be authorized <br />I, to sign this deed. On vote the motion was carried. <br />~j <br />I: Councilman Farrington stated that lots 7, 8, 9, block 6, Fairmount <br />I' Heights were appraised too high and the Coromi ttee was recommending the appraisal <br />i; should be lowered. Lot 7, has been at $1200.00 and the committee was recommend- <br />~ ing ~t be lowered to $750.00. Lots 8, $1200.00 lowered to $75a.00; lot 9, at <br />Ii $1250 lowered to $800.00. Councilman Farrington also reported there were <br />14 II several other lots on the east side that would have to be reappraised the same <br />Ii as these lots as they were priced too high. A motion was made by Farrington <br />t, and seconded by Crumbaker that the 3 lots referred to above should Be appraised <br />: at the given values. On vote the motion was carried. <br />I:, <br />I' <br />~,: At this time Mayor Large asked the Recorder to read the communique <br />;: from the Oregon Electric Railway Co. This was a request for the Oregon Electric <br />1- - I Railway Co. to change the motive power on the City streets from the Electric <br />, 15 II power now used to Electric Deisel loc<?motives. Councilman Stewart stated that <br />;, he beleived this would be beneficial and favored the granting of this request. <br />I: Coun-cilmap. Koppe stated that he thought there would be no objection to the. <br />I ohange if the present power lines and poles would be removed as soon as the <br />I; new locomotives were put in service. Mr. Biggs and Mr. Clough of the Oregon <br />f: Electric were present and stated it was the intention to remove the power-lines <br />I and the poles as soon as the engines could be secured; that the comapny was <br />: making application for permission to purchase the engines and that it would <br />~ pro~ably by 8 months or a year before the engines would be in service.. A <br />: motion was made by Farrington and seconded by Hawn and carriedthat this request <br />I be granted and that the City Attorney bring in to the Council an amendment to <br />! the present ~ranchise covered by ordinance number 8514. On vote the motion was <br />i, carried. <br /> <br />I' <br />I. Councilman Davis reporting for the Street Department stated he had a <br />j: request from James Scroggs to rent space in the City's bUilding at 5th and <br />r Olive for a paint shop but that he wanted to hold this over until the next <br />16 I Council meeting. <br /> <br />I, <br /> <br />!: Councilman Stewart reporting for the Fire and Water Coromi ttee stated <br />;: that the Water Board were extending their lines on Pearl Street from 16th to <br />I 19th and on Hilyard from 19th to 24th and that it would be necessary for the <br />; City to supply 2 new hydrants. He stated that there were only 4 hydrants on <br />r hand and that the Committee was requesting permission to order 6 more hydrants <br />I" at this time as it might take time to get them; that the hydrants would cost <br />17 ~: in the neighborhood of $100 or $130 each and that there was money in the budget. <br />II A motion was made, seconded and carried that the committee be instructed to <br />I' place an order for 6 new water hydrants of the type now being used by the City. <br /> <br />I,' Councilman Stewart stated that the chairs in the Fire Department were in <br />I' very bad shape ; that they had been dona t~d by Mr. Frank Chambers, a good many <br />I': years ago and were beyond repair; that they had an offer at this time to buy <br />18 ,: some second hand chairs at ahout $2.00 each and that he was recommending that <br />I :' the committee be instructed to purchase up to 20 of these chairs. Councilman <br />. I Barette stated that the davenport was in very bad condition and that he thought <br />!~ it should be repaired. A motion was made by Stewart and seconded by Barette <br />" that if the chairs the committee were referring to were in good condition and <br />I, suitable to the Fire Department, the committee should be instructed to purchase <br />i ~p to 20 of these and that they should see what could be done regarding repairing <br />!i the davenport. On vote the motion was carried. <br /> <br />Ii Councilman Bailey reporting for the Health Department stated that a <br />I' Mr. Roberts had suggested there should be trash cans 'placed at 15th and Alder <br />l' on-account of the trash scattered by the students. It was suggested this was <br /> <br />19 : a matter for the School Board and no further action was taken by the Council. <br />1 <br />I I <br />' I ~ <br />
