L. Puckett and approximately 450 others requesting the City to I <br />1< "" restore the Mill Race to normal in August or September, 1946. Mayor McNutt, <br />,,.,,25 the City Manager and members of the Council informed Mr. Culp and other pe- <br />f'..:~ , titioners present at the meeting that the City could not legally expend any <br /> 1 public funds for restoration of the Mill Race until such time as the Race and <br />A 'easements thereon came into possession of the City and not then until the Bud- <br />VQ;, get Committee of the Di ty of Eugene appropriated monies for this purpose. It <br />:-:>r was further explained that the City had no intention of drying up or abandoning <br />~: the ~lill Race in connection with its proposed highway development program but <br /> : that the work in-connection with such development scheduled for the summer of <br /> ; 1947 would preclude the filling of the race during the period of construction. <br /> I <br /> I The City Manager informed the petitioners that his office had on numerous <br /> I <br /> I occasions called upon the present owners of the Race as to their intentions <br /> I to repair and restore the same. <br /> I <br /> I Upon motion the petitions were ordered received and placed on file. <br /> I <br /> I John J. Rogers of the Twin Oaks Building Supply Co. and representatives of the <br />26! C. P. Tilman Company, Oregon Fruit Company and Long Bell Lumber Co. appeared be- <br /> I fore the Common Council and or~lly protested passage of Council Bill No. 124 pro- <br /> I ,,}- <br /> viding for repeal of Ordinance 1091. Petitioners stated that the removal of the <br /> spur track as contemplated by Council Bill No. 124 would seriously impair if not <br /> make impossible the continuation of their respective business now served by the <br /> spur line. <br /> ORDINANCES <br /> Counci~ Bill No. 124 -- Repealing Ordinance 1091, granting the right, <br />27 to construct and maintain a railroad track across certain streets and alleys in <br /> the City of Eugene, introduced and read'the first time August 12th was submitted <br /> and read the second time. <br /> It was moved by Crumbaker, seconded by Hawn that the ordinance be laid ove~. <br /> Council Bill No. 130 :-- Re: Vacation of alley running east and west I <br />28 through Block 20, Chamber's Addition, was submitted and read the first time. <br /> It was moved by Koppe, seconded by Hawn that the rules be suspended by unanimous <br /> I consen t and the ordinanc e read the second time. Motion carried. <br /> I <br /> I seconded by Hawn that the rules be further suspended and' <br /> i It was moved by Koppe, <br /> the ordinance passed to its third and final reading. All Councilmen present <br /> voting AYE, the ordinance was declared passed and nuniliered 8936. Bailey and <br /> Hurley absent. <br /> Council Bill No. 131 -- He: Reclassification of various properties in <br />29 the City of Eugene, was submitted and read the first time. <br /> I It was moved by Koppe, seconded by Hawn that the rules be suspended by unanimous <br /> ! consent and the ordinance given second reading. <br /> It was moved by Koppe, seconded by Hawn that the rules be further suspended and <br /> the ordinance passed to its third and final reading. All Councilmen present voting <br /> AYE, the ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8937.
