' :...~ <br /> 'h,. <br /> 6 A report o~ the City Manager re: vari?us department activities, was submitted <br /> and ,read as follows: <br />I "I am pleased to advise that a bid call has been issued for the second and <br /> final unit of Eugene's Memorial Swimming Pool, covering construction of a building <br /> to house the.dressing rooms, showers and filtration and heating equipment. Bids <br /> are scheduled for opening October 24. <br /> Work on the initial unit has been progressing satisfactorily to date. All <br /> concrete work on the main tank is completed and pouring of the pipe tunnel is <br /> nearing completition. Every possible effort will be made to have the pool ready <br /> \ for operation by early summer, 1948. <br /> Among department reports I should like to call attention to that of the <br /> Police 'Department for the quarter ending September 30. Traffic accidents for the <br /> first three quarters total 1656 as compared to 1060 for the first three quarters <br /> of 1946. Injuries for 1947 to date number 144 as against 144 for the same period <br /> in 1946. <br /> During September the ratio of traffic arrests for moving violations per <br /> accident involving personal injury was 30 to 1, the highest in the departments' <br /> history. <br /> The third meeting of the jOint committees on the Mill Race is scheduled for <br /> October 28th. An engineering report on the restoration of the race is now being <br /> studied and it is anticipated that a report and recommendation from the Committee <br /> will be forthcoming within the next 30 to 60 days. <br />I .This for your information." <br /> It was moved by Bailey, seconded by Johnson that the report of the City Manager be <br /> received and placed on file. Motion carried. <br /> A report of the City Engineer re: proposed opening of 24th Avenue between <br /> 8 Alder and Harris Streets, was submitted and read as follows: <br /> "Pursuant to the resolution of September 8, 1947, I herewith submit a report <br /> of the survey for the opening of 24th Avenue from Alder to Harris Streets in Eugene, <br /> Oregon.
