It was moved by Crumbaker, seconded by Hawn that the report of the Planning Commission be received and placed on file and that the recommendations contained therein be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Hawn, seconded by Crumbaker that the petition be received and placed on file and that the necessary ordinances be drawn. Motion carried. An application for Package Store Class A License was submitted by Wm. Dion, 10 Community Market, 1201 West 11th Ave. 9 It was moved by Hawn, seconded by Davis that the application as approved by the Chief of Police be endorsed. Motion carried. 11 The fOllowing rooming house license applications were submitted for approval: West 8th St. Apartments, 132 West 8th Bangs Hotel, 88 West 8th Mrs. H. H. Hansen, 893 East 11th Mr. & Mrs. W. J. Chamberlain, 983 Alder Kennedy Courts, 1522 West 6th L. A. Walker, 60 East 7th Pratt Apts., 681 Willamette El Don Motel, 1140 West 6th Charles Good, 1350 Chambers It was moved by Hawn, seconded by Crumbaker that the rooming house applications' as approved by the Police, Fire and Health Departments, be endorsed. Motion carried A petition signed by C. S. Rauch, 1925 Adams Street for the rezoning of the North 1/2 of Lot 10 and all of Lot 11 in Block 1 of Belmont Addition from R-l (Single Family) to R-3 (Multiple Family) classification, was submitted and read. It was moved by Hawn, seconded by Bailey that the petition be referred to the Planning Commission by necessary resolution. Motion carried. A communication signed by Dave Van Fossen and H. E. McGaugh; also a communi- 13 cation from F. R. Reid re: proposed opening of alley between West Broadway and West 8th Ave., Van Buren to Tayler. 12 14 It was moved by Hawn, seconded by Crumbaker that the communications be received and placed on file. Motion carried. A communication signed by Mrs. Walter P. Cochran and 18 others re: traffic hazards at First and Washington Streets, was submitted and read as follows: "I am writing on behalf of the residents in vicinity of First and Washington Streets. We have had a series of accidents on this corner in the last few months which was climaxed by an accident on Friday, February 6; that proved near fatal and caused considerable property damage. Some time ago I wrote a letter to the Register Guard which was signed by residents in the immediate neighborhood of First and Washington. We thought perhaps a little publicity for our traffic problem through the paper might help thoughtless drivers to see how they were endangering the lives of our children. The newspaper was very cooperative, but careless driving and excess speed has not been cut down at all. All we ask is that the City Manager and Eugene City Council try to help us figure out some answer to this problem, caused by heavy traffic using First Street as a cut-off to town and back West to River Road in order to avoid congested traffic on Blair Street, and Van Buren.
