<br /> II WHEREAS, APPROXIMATELY $200,000.00 OF THIS MONEY IS ESTIMATED TO BE REQUIRED FOR

<br /> STRUCTURE AND FERN RIDGE RESERVOIR, LEAVING APPROXIMATELY $118,000.00 FOR ENGINEERING
<br /> I AND FURTHER DREDGING OF THE AMAZON CREEK BETWEEN A POINT ABOUT 300 FEET UPSTREAM FROM
<br /> I THE DIVERSION STRUCTURE AND THE WEST END OF THE PROPOSED CONCRETE CHANNEL WITHIN THE
<br /> CITY OF EUGENE, AND .
<br />I I WHEREAS, DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF IMPROVEMENT HAS BEEN
<br /> Ii ACCOMPLISHED ON AMAZON CREEK FROM THE WEST CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF EUGENE NEAR
<br /> II TO
<br /> THE DIVERSION STRUCTURE, PROVIDING A BROADENED CHANNEL WHICH WILL ACCOMMODATE A MUCH
<br /> I, GREATER FLOW THAN THE OLD NATURAL CHANNEL, AND
<br /> I
<br /> I: WHEREAS, NO WORK WHATSOEVER FOR THE RELIEF OF THE HEAVILY POPULATED AND HIGHLY
<br /> I VALUED AREAS WITHIN THE CITY HAS BEEN DONE WITHIN THE CITY OF EUGENE, IT IS, THEREFORE,
<br /> I
<br /> I RECOMMENDED THA T THE REMAINING AMOUNT OF MONEY, APPROXIMATING $75,000.00 TO $118,000.00,
<br /> BE EXPENDED I N THE FOLLOWING MANNER: REMOVE THE OBSTRUCTION TO FLOW AT THE BAILEY HILL
<br /> I ROAD BRIDGE CROSSING BY CONSTRUCTING THE NEW CHANNEL TO BY-PASS THE OLD BRIDGE; THEN
<br /> I
<br /> I START WORK AT THE WEST END OF THE PROPOSED CONCRETE LINED CHANNEL IN THE CITY OF EUGENE
<br /> I AND EXTEND WORK WESTERLY AS FAR AS FUNDS AVAILABLE WILL PERMI T; IF PRACTICABLE CONNECTING
<br /> I
<br /> I WITH AND EXTENDING BEYOND NEW CHANNEL WORK AT BAILEY HILL ROAD REFERRED TO ABOVE. IN
<br /> ! MAKING THIS RECOMMENDATION, IT IS FELT THAT THE BENEFIT TO COST RATIO WILL BE EXCEEDED
<br /> I MANY TIMES MORE THAN IF ALL OF THE MONEY IS EXPENDED I N THE LOWER PORTION OF THE PROJECT.

<br /> I IT WILL
<br /> i ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR THE PERIODIC CLOSING OF SCHOOLS IN THE WEST SECTION OF
<br /> \ THE CITY OF EUGENE DURING EVEN MODERATE FLOOD CONDITIONS, AND WILL ELIMINATE THE I N-
<br /> I SANITARY CONDITIONS THROUGH THE SEWER SYSTEMS WH I CH OCCUR IN THIS AREA DURING EACH FLOOD
<br /> II SEASON,

<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES

<br /> I: HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THE AMAZON CHANNEL PROJECT PROCEED I N THE ABOVE DESCRIBED
<br /> I MANNER AND THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE DOES HEREBY BIND ITSELF AND GUARANTEE

<br /> i THAT IN THE EVENT SAID PROJECT IS CARRIED FORWARD I N THE ABOVE DESCRIBED MANNER, THAT THE
