WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY HIS HONOR, MAYOR V. E. JOHNSON WITH <br />THE FOLLOWING COUNCILMEN PRESENT: CRUMBAKER, GODLOVE, SMITH, KOPPE, SIEGENTHALER AND WATSON. <br />COUNCILMEN ALLEN AND BOOTH WERE ABSENT. <br /> <br />THE SUBJECT OF DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME WAS DISCUSSED AND A DRAFT OF A RESOLUTION TO PLACE <br />THE CITY HALL TIME ON DAYLIGHT TIME AND URGE BUSINESS AND COMMERCE TO DO LIKEWISE WAS <br />PRESENTED AND CONSIDERED. THE PROPOSED RESOLUTION READ AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />'~HEREAS, DAYLIGHT TIME BECAME NATIONALLY PREVALENT AS OF 2:01 A.M. SUNDAY, <br />APRIL 27, 1952, AND <br /> <br />WHEREAS, THE COUNCIL DEEMS IT TO BE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST THAT THE WORK DAY <br />THROUGHOUT THE CITY BE ADVANCED ONE HOUR WHICH WILL CORRESPOND TO'DAYLIGHT TIME AS <br />IN EFFECT IN OTHER PARTS OF THE PACIFIC COAST, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE THAT IN ORDER <br />TO,FURTHER UNIFORMITY BETWEEN THE CITY OF EUGENE AND OTHER METROPOLITAN AREAS OF THE <br />UNITED STATES, WHICH ARE ON DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME, THE COUNCIL DOES HEREBY PUBLISH AND <br />DECLARE THE FOLLOWING PROCLAMATION: <br /> <br />IT IS HEREBY DECLARED THE PUBLIC POLICY OF THE CITY OF EUGENE ACTING BY AND <br />THROUGH THE COUNCIL OF THE SAID CITY THAT WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS THEREOF BETWEEN <br />I :59 O'CLOCK A.M. SUNDAY, MAY 4, 1952, AND I :59 O'CLOCK A.M. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, <br />1952, THE TRANSACTION OF ALL BUSINESS AND HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT, SAVE AND EXCEPT WHERE <br />OTHERWISE SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED BY LAW, SHALL BE ADVANCED ONE HOUR FROM PACIFIC STANDARD <br />TIME, WHICH ADVANCEMENT SHALL BE IN ACCORD WITH DAYLIGHT TIME AS IN FORCE AND EFFECT IN <br />OTHER METROPOLITAN AREAS AND IN SOME OTHER STATES OF THE PACIFIC COAST. IN CONFORMITY <br />WITH THIS PROCLAMATION, BUSINESS, COMMERCE, AND OTHER ENTERPRISES OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT <br />OFFICES, INSOFAR AS THE SAME MAY BE POSSIBLE, HEREBY ARE URGED TO ADVANCE CLOCKS ONE <br />HOUR, BEGINNING AT 1:59 O'CLOCK A.M. SUNDAY, MAY 4,1952, AND CONTINUING UNTIL 1:59 <br />O'CLOCK A.M. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1952." <br /> <br />ADOPTED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE THIS 1ST DAY OF MAY, 1952. <br /> <br />THE QUESTION OF THE ADOPTION OF THE RESOLUTION WAS SUBMITTED TO A VOTE. THE MAJORITY <br />OF THE COUNCIL VOTED TO APPROVE THE ADOPTION OF THE RESOLUTION IN AN ENDEAVOR TO BRING ABOUT <br />UNIFORMITY BETWEEN THE CI TY OF EUGENE AND OTHER METROPOLITAN AREAS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. <br /> <br /> <br />Ii <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />II <br />II <br />i' <br />,I <br />II <br />Ii <br />I <br /> <br />-~- <br /> <br />~ <br />
