<br /> YESTERDAY, I HAD MY FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE AMAZON IN ACTION, AND THE CITY
<br /> AS A WHOLE UNDER STORM CONDITIONS. THE STORM BEING A MAJOR ONE, WITH 3.52 INCHES OF
<br /> PRECIPITATION FALLING FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON TO 10:00 A . M. THIS MORNING. THE AMAZON
<br />=-. HAS BEEN FLOWING PRACTICALLY FULL. SOME TROUBLE! WAS EXPERIENCED WHERE IT CROSSES 19TH

<br /> AVENUE. IT WAS NECESSARY TO CLEAN DEBRIS WHICH HAD ACCUMULI1 TED AT THE UPSTREAM SIDE
<br /> OF THE CULVERTS AT 17TH, 18TH I1ND 19TH AVENUES WHICH WAS REMOVED WITH A MOBILE CRA NE.
<br /> OTHER PARTS OF THE CITY AFFECTED MOSTLY FROM LACK OF SEWERS OR DITCHES W~RE WEST 29TH
<br /> AVENUE FROM LINCOLN EAST TO OAK; WEST 18TH AVENUE FROM POLK TO CITY VIEW AND ISOLATED
<br /> CATCH BASINS THROUGHOUT THE CITY WHICH WERE CLOGGED BY LEI1VES AND TR~SH. SEVERAL CALLS
<br /> I' CITY CONCERNED WITH EXCEPT FROM THE WEST-
<br /> 1 WERE RECEIVED ALL OVER THE SANITARY SEWERS,
<br /> 1
<br /> MORELAND DISTRICT WHICH IS BEING TAKEN CARE OF BY THE PUMPING STATION ON 13TH AVENUE.
<br /> THE MAl NTENANCE DEPARTMENT REPORTS THAT ONLY ONE SEWER WAS FOUND TO BE CLOGGED, THE
<br /> ~EST WERE OVERLOADED WHICH WERE CAUSING WI1TER TO BACK UP IN QU I TE 11 FEW BASEMENTS.

<br /> THERE IS SOME FLOODING AT THE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT WHICH HAS BEEN CAUSED BY THE
<br /> I: IMPROPER CLOSING OF FLAP GATES IN THE AREA. WHAT DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE, IF ANY, WILL BE
<br /> REPORTED AT A LATER MEETI NG.
