IN THt COUNCIL CHAMBERS. IN THE ABSENCE OF MAYOR JOHNSON, THE ME~TING WAS CALLED <br />TO ORDER BY COUNCIL PRESIDENT, ROBERT BOOTH, WITH THE FOLLOWING COUNCILMEN PRESENT: MR. BOOTH, <br />MR. KOPPE, MR. WATSON, MR. OWEN, MR. SHEARER, MR. HARTMAN, AND MR..SHISLER. MR. GODLOVE WAS <br />ABSENT. <br /> <br />IT WAS ANNOUNCED BY COUNCIL PRESIDENT BOOTH THAT THE SPECIAL MEETING HAD BEEN CALLED FOR <br />THE PURPOSE OF A HEARING ON COUNCIL BILL No. 1846, AMENDING THE BUS FRANCHISE TO CITY TRANSIT <br />LINES, AND TH~T THE HEARING IS DECLARED OPEN. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COMMUNICATION FROM LEAVITT O. WRIGHT - RE: PROPOSED BUS ROUTES WAS SUBMITTED AND READ. <br />THIS COMMUNICATION SUGGESTED A NEW ROUTE FOR THE FAIRMOUNT Bus THAT WOULD SERVE THE CAMPUS, AND <br />ALSO A SCENIC LOOP THROUGH HENDRICKtS PARK. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />COMMUNICATION FROM J. D. SORENSON - RE: PROPOSED REROUTING OF THE COLLEGE CREST Bus ROUTE <br />WAS SUBMITTED AND READ. THIS COMMUNICATION DISCUSSED THE SITUATION INVOLVED IF A BUS WAS <br />ALLOWED TO OPERATE ON WEST 23RD AVENUE FROM JEFFERSON TO MONROE STREET. MR. SORENSON STATED <br />THAT THE STREET WAS NOT PAVED AND THAT IN THE DRIER SEASONS OF THE YEAR THERE IS A SEVERE DUST <br />PROBLEM. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />THESE COMMUNICATIONS WERE ORDERED, IN THE ABSENCE OF OBJECTIONS, RECEIVED AND PLACED ON <br />FILE. <br /> <br />ORDINANCES <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />COUNCIL BILL No. 1846 - RE: AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 10200 GRANTING A FRANCHISE TO CITY <br />TRANSIT LINES, INTRODUCED AND GIVEN FIRST AND SECOND READINGS ON MARCH 14, 1955 WAS BROUGHT ON <br />FOR CONSIDERATION. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />IT WAS MOVED BY MR. KOPPE, SECONDED BY MR. WATSON THAT THE RULES BE SUSPENDED AND THE BILL <br />BE READ THE THIRD TIME BY TITLE ONLY, WITH UNANIMOUS CONSENT OF THE COUNCIL. MOTION CARRIED <br />UNANIMOUSLY AND THE BILL WAS READ THE THIRD TIME BY TITLE ONLY. <br /> <br />IT WAS MOVED BY MR. KOPPE, SECONDED BY MR. OWEN THAT THE COUNCIL 'BILL BE APPROVED AND <br />GIVEN FINAL PASSAGE. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />THE MEETING WAS. THEN OPEN FOR DISCUSS~ON ON COUNCIL BILL No. 1846. MR. LEA~ITT WRIGHT AND <br />COUNCILMAN SHISLER ASKED SEVERAL QUESTIONS WHICH WERE ANSWERED BY MR. WENDT. A DELEGATION OF <br />OUTSIDE RESIDENTS, ALSO PRESENT, DIRECTED A NUMBER OF QUEDTIONS TO MR. WENDT. IT WAS REQUESTED <br />BY MR. BOOTH THAT THEY ARRANGE FOR A SEPARATE CONSULTATION WITH MR. WENDT SINCE THE OPERATION <br />OF THE BUS LINE OUTSIDE THE CITY IS NOT REGULATED BY THE CITY FRANCHISE. <br /> <br />THE' HEARl NG WAS DECLARED CLOSED, AND THE QUESTI ON CALLED FOR. ON A ROLL CALL VOTE, ALL <br />COUNCILMEN PRESENT VOTED AYE. MR.GODLOVE ABSENT.
