<br />NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM or $165,000.00 EACH YEAR rOR A PERIOD OF TEN YEARS, COMMENCING
<br />WITH THE LEVY rOR THE TAX ROLL rOR THE rlSCAL YEAR 1955-1956, AND TO LEVY, ASSESS AND
<br />COLLECT A MILLAGE BASED UPON THE DOLLAR VALUATION, UPON ALL PROPERTY, REAL AND PERSONAL,
<br />WITHIN THE CITY or EUGENE, NOT EXEMPT rROM TAXATION surrlCIENT TO RAISE SAID AMOUNT EACH

<br />SECTION I. THE COMMON CoaNCIL or THE CITY or EUGENE IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED, EMPOWERED
<br />AND DIRECTED TO LEVY, ASSESS AND COLLECT TAXES NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM or $165,000.00 EACH
<br />YEAR rOR A PERIOD or TEN YEARS, COMMENCING WITH THE LEVY FOR THE TAX ROLL FOR THE FISCAL
<br />YEAR 1955-1956, AND TO LEVY, ASSESS AND COLLECT A MILLAGE BASED UPON THE DOLLAR VALUATION,

<br />BE ADOPTED. ON A ROLLCALL VOTE, THE MOTION CARRIED WITH FOUR COUNCILMEN rAVORING ADOPTION AND I
<br />TWO VOTING AGAINST. THE "NO" VOTES WERE CAST BY COUNCILMEN WATSON AND SHISLER.

<br />THIS LEVY SHALL BE IN ADDITION TO EXISTING LEVIES.

<br />SECTION 3. THE MONEY REALIZED BY THE LEVY HEREIN PROVIDED FOR SHALL BE DEPOSITED
<br />IN, KEPT AND DISBURSED rROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE FUND.
<br />
<br />SECTION 4. THAT SAID MONEY SHALL BE DISBURSED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL- BY WARRANTS
<br />DRAWN BY THE COUNCIL UPON SAID fiRE DEPARTMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE fUND, SAID
<br />WARRANTS TO BE SIGNED BY'THE MAYOR AND CITY RECORDER.

<br />SECTION 5. THIS LEVY WILL BE IN ADDITION TO AND IN EXCESS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL SIX
<br />PER CENT LIMITATION UPON THE CITY'S TAX LEVY.

<br />OVER AN ALLEY TO CONNECT TWO BUILDINGS WAS SUBMITTED AND READ AS rOLLOWS:

<br />"THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE LANE COUNTY CHAPTER or THE AMERICAN RED CROSS HAS
<br />NEGOTIATED AN AGREEMENT TO SELL THE PRESENT BUILDING LOCATED AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF
<br />THE ALLEY AND 47 WEST 8TH STREET CONTINGENT UPON THE PERMISSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO
<br />ALLOW THE PURCHASER, MR. MAURICE JACOBS, TO CONSTRUCT A RAMP FROM HIS BUILDING OCCUPIED
<br />BY THE STERLINE fURNITURE COMPANY ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER or THIS SAME ALLEY, IN OTHER
<br />WORDS ACROSS THE ALLEY TO OUR BUILDING. THIS RAMP WOULD BE 18 rEET ABOVE THE LEVEL or
<br />THE ALLEY ON THE BOTTOM AND 8 rEET ABOVE, IT WOULD BE SUPPORTED BY TWO 8 X 12 "I" BEAMS
