BOOTH WAS ABSENT. <br /> <br />THE MINUTES OF THE LAST REGULAR MEETING HELD OH MARCH 12, 1956 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br />REPORTS Of OFfiCERS <br /> <br />A REPORT FROM THE CITY MANAGER - RE: ApPOINTMENT OF CITY HEALTH OFFI~ER; PERMISSION:TO <br />OPEN BALLOT BAGS; FIRE DEPARTMENT IMPROVEMENTS; AND NEW COMPREHENSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE WAS <br />SUBMITTED AND READ AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />"DR. HAROLD T. OSTERUD, RECENTLY APPOINTED LANE COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER, H~S BEEN <br />ACTIN~ AS CITY HEALTH OFFICER AND IT IS MY RECOMMENDATION THAT THE MAYOR APP6INT, <br />SUBJECT TO THE COUNCI~'S CONFIRMATION, THE SAID DR. OSTERUDAS HEALTH OFFICER fOR THE <br />CITY OF' EUGENE. <br /> <br />,THE CITY RECO~DER REQUESTS PERMISSION TO OPEN ALL BALLOT BAGS' WHICH HAVE BEEN USED <br />AT ELECTIONS HELD BEFORE MARCH I, 1956. SURF'US OF THE fiRE: <br />DEPARTMENT: THAT ALL IMPROVEMENTS AND EXTENSION TO THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM THAT WERE SET <br />UP I N THE 1955-56 BUDGET, ARE NOW COMPLETE AND CONS I ST OF THE FOLLOWI NG: <br /> <br />I. INSTALLED SEVEN MILES OF WIRE TO CONNECT THE SENECA AND SOUTH SIDE SUB-STATIONS <br /> <br />2. INSTALLED THREE NEW FIRE ALARM BOXES AT 6TH AVENUE AND GRANT STREET, 6TH AVENUE <br />AND MONROE STREET, AND 29TH AVENUE AND WILLAMETTE STREET <br /> <br />3. THE RELOCATION OF ONE fiRE ALARM BOX F'ROM 17TH AVENUE AND CHARNELTON STREET TO 6TH <br />AVENUE AND ARTHUR STREET <br /> <br />~. INSTALLED A TRANSMITTER AT THE HEADQUARTERS STAIIONTO CONFIRM ALL FIRE ALARMS~ <br />THIS WAS REQUIRED BY THE NATIONAL BOARD OF' fiRE UNDERWRITERS IN,THEIR 1950 SURVEY. <br /> <br />5. OVER 4,000 CA~DS FOR THE RUNNING ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE FOR USE WITH THIS <br />TRANSMITTER <br /> <br />6. <br /> <br />THE FIRE ALARM CIRCUIT ON EAST 13TH AVENUE BETWEEN OAK AND WILLAMETTE STREETS HAS <br />BEEN RELOCATED SO AS TO ELIMINATE TWO OLD POLES WHICH WERE OWNED BY THE CITY OF' <br />EUGENE. THE TWO POLES HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY THE TELEPHONE COMPANY WITHOUT COST TO <br />THE CITY. <br /> <br />THE SPEED IN COMPLETION OF THIS PROJECT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE AT THIS DATE <br />.WERE IT NOT FOR THE "GOOD NEIGHBOR" HELP FROM THE ,GITY Of PORTLAND AND THECrTY OF <br />SPOKANE. COBPER WIRE IS STILL,IN EXTREMELY SHORT SUPPLY DUE TO STTIKES AND DIIASTERS. <br />THE CITY OF,PORTLAND LOANED US 14,000 FEET OF WIRE AND THE CITY OF SPOKANE LOANED US <br />26,00~ FEET OF W!RE. WE ~ERE THUS ABLE TO CONNECT THE TWO STATIONS EARLY IN THE YEAR. <br />THESE AMOUNTS OF WIRE WERE ORDERED LAST AUGUST AND WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THEY WERE <br />RECEIVED BY:THESE TWO CITIES-IN fEBRUARY.. <br /> <br />ON EACH OF YOUR DESKS THERE HAS BEEN PLACED A COpy OF THE COMPREHENSIVE ZONING <br />ORDINANCE AS REVISED OCTOBER 31, 1956." <br /> <br />IT WAS MOVED BY MR. GODLOVE, SECONDED BY ,MR. KOPPE, THAT THE REPORT OF THE CITY MANAGER <br />BE RECEIVED AND PLACED ON FLLE.
