SOME FURTHER DISCUSSION RESULTED IN A MOTION BY MR.CHATT <br /> ~ SECONDED BY MR. CHRISTENSEN TO HOLD THE MATTER OVER TO THE OCTOBER 22, 1962 <br /> <:::t COUNCIL MEETING. MOTION CARRIED. <br /> ~ <br /> :c LAURIS MOVED SECONDED BY MR. MOLHOLM THAT THE REQUESTED VARIANCE BE GRANTED SACRED HEART HOSPITAL. <br /> CO MRS. <br /> MOTION CARRIED. <br /> 2 F. VARIANCE FROM R- I ZONE, 1350 CHAMBERS, CLARKE -DR. CLARKE REQUESTED THE VARIANCE <br /> TO ALLOW HIM TO CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL OFFICE SPACE AND PROVIDE OFF-STREET PARKING <br /> e THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED APPROVAL, AND MR. CHATT MOVED SECONDED BY <br /> MR. CHRISTENSEN TO APPROVE THE VARIANCE. MOTION CARRIED. <br /> 3 G. REZONE RA TO R-3, ALDER AND 39TH PLACE, LYLE - THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED <br /> DENIAL OF THE REQUESTED ZONE CHANGE AND FURTHER RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY ACQUIRE <br /> FROM THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH A SMALL PIE-SHAPED SECTION WHICH WOULD COMPLETE THE <br /> INTERSECTION OF 39TH PLACE AND ALDER STREET WITH A BUMPER STRIP I' OUTSIDE THE <br /> I SEGMENT TO RESTRICT ACCESS ON THE CRAWFORD LYLE REQUEST. MRS. LAURIS MOVED <br /> SECONDED BY MR. CHATT TO ACQUIRE THE CORNER PIECE AND THUS COMPLETE THE RIGHT- <br /> FO-WAY WHILE DENYING THE REQUEST FOR A ZONE CHANGE. FURTHER DISCUSSION RESULTED <br /> IN A MOTION BY MR. MOYER SECONDED BY MR. CHATT TO REFER THE MATTER TO THE STAFF. <br /> MOTION CARRIED." <br /> MRS. LAURIS MOVED SECONDED BY MR. STORM DAMAGE, OCTOBER 12, 1962 - THE CITY MANAGER REPORTED DAMAGE TO CITY PROPERTY <br /> BY THE RECENT STORM, INCLUDING THE CITY HALL ROOF AND WINDOWS IN THE BUILDING, JAIL <br /> ROO F , LIGHT POLES AND MANY TREES AT WASHINGTON PARK. ALSO SUFFERING SOME DAMAGE <br /> WERE THE LIBRARY, CONTROL TOWER AT THE AIRPORT, A SHED AND METAL ROOF AT THE MAINTE- <br /> NANCE SHOP, DOORS AND WINDOWS AT THE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT, AND ALSO SOME FORM WORK <br /> AT THE NEW CITY HALL. THE CITY MANAGER ALSO STATED THAT CITY CREWS WORKED FRIDAY <br /> NIGHT, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, THAT ADDITIONAL EQU~PMENT AND MEN HAD BEEN HIRED AND <br /> THAT'THE STATE HAD FURNISHED THE CITY SIX DUMP TRUCKS FOR HELP IN CLEARING DEBRIS <br /> -I FROM CITY STREETS. HE ALSO REPORTED THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM BACK IN SERVICE AND ALL <br /> BUT THREE TRAFFIC SIGNALS BACK IN OPERATION. THE TRAFFIC SIGNALS HAVE YET TO BE <br /> SYNCHRONIZED. THE CITY MANAGER AND SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL COMMENDED THE <br /> ACTION OF THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS IN THE HANDLING OF THEIR VARIOUS JOBS IN THIS <br /> EMERGENCY. <br /> 5 2. JEFFERSON STREET RAILROAD CROSSING.~ - THE CITY MANAGER READ A LETTER FROM THE <br /> SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY REGARDING INSTALLATION OF WARNING SIGNALS AT JEFFERSON <br /> e STREET CROSSING OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC TRACKS IN WHICH IT WAS STATED NECESSARY <br /> MATERIALS HAD NOT ARRIVED BUT THEY WOULD COMPLETE THE WORK AS SOON AS MATERIALS <br /> WERE AVAILABLE. <br /> MRS. LAURIS MOVED SECONDED BY MR. MOLHOLM TO RECEIVE AND PLACE ON FILE ITEMS I AND 2 OF THE COMMITTEE <br /> REPORT. MOTION CARRIED. <br /> 3. PLANNING COMMISSION REPORT - OCTOBER 2, 1962 <br /> 6 A. VARIANCE 1380 GARFIELD STREET, SPIDELL - MR. RONALD SPIDELL REQUESTED A VARIANCE <br /> FOR A 3-YEAR PERIOD TO ALLOW HIM TO CONTINUE THE OPERATION OF A FLOWER AND PLANT <br /> NURSERY AT 1380 GARFIELD STREET. THE REQUEST HAD BEEN APPROVED BY THE PLANNING <br /> COMMISSION, AND MR. CHATT MOVED SECONDED BY MR. SWANSON TO APPROVE THE VARIANCE. <br /> MOTION CARRIED. <br /> 7 B. VARIANCE SW CORNER CREST DRIVE AND OLIVE STREET, COLLEGE CREST COMMUNITY CLUB - <br /> I THIS REQUEST FOR VARIANCE FROM RA ZONE TO ALLOW CONSTRUCTION OF A COMMUNITY CLUB <br /> BUILDING WAS RECOMMENDED FOR DENIAL BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION.
